ACTIVITY 1 CWORLD: INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

1. The United Nations (UN)


- is an intergovernmental organization founded in 1945 to promote international
cooperation and resolve conflicts peacefully. Its main organs are the General
Assembly, the Security Council, and the International Court of Justice. The UN also
oversees specialized agencies and programs that focus on issues such as health,
education, human rights, and environmental sustainability.

2. The World Trade Organization (WTO)


- is an intergovernmental organization that regulates international trade and promotes
free trade. Its main functions include negotiating and enforcing global trade
agreements, resolving trade disputes between member countries, and providing
technical assistance and training for developing countries.

3. The International Monetary Fund (IMF)


- is an international organization that promotes international monetary cooperation,
exchange stability, and economic growth. Its main functions include providing
financial assistance to member countries experiencing balance-of-payments
difficulties, conducting economic surveillance and analysis, and providing technical
assistance and training to member countries.

4. The World Bank


- is an international organization that provides loans and grants to developing countries
for development projects aimed at reducing poverty and promoting economic growth.
Its main functions include providing financial assistance for infrastructure projects,
promoting economic and social development, and providing technical assistance and
training.

5. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)


- is a regional intergovernmental forum that promotes economic cooperation and free
trade among its member economies in the Asia-Pacific region. Its main functions
include facilitating trade and investment liberalization and promoting sustainable
economic growth and development.

6. The European Union (EU)


- is a political and economic union of 27 member countries in Europe. Its main
functions include promoting economic and social development, facilitating the free
movement of goods, services, and people within the EU, and establishing common
policies on issues such as trade, agriculture, and the environment. The EU also has its
own institutions, such as the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the
European Court of Justice.
