Short Description
The Portable CBM is a system for measuring shaft orbit and shaft runout.
It uses a setup with standard analog inductive proximity sensors which are
interfaced directly to a data acquisition unit which again is connect to a windows
PC via a USB connection. The PC handles filtering and data analysis. Finally the
data are store in a database.

Database
USB stick
To retrieve data from the PCBM simply copy the database fil to a USB stick.
It is possible to connect the PSCM to the local network an access the system thru
VNC.
Figur 2 - Screenshot. The two top plots shows the last measured orbit, and the bottom two shows the orbit
amplitudes trended over time. (No data in this Picture)
Installation
Orbit
Two sensors are needed for orbit measurement, one vertical and one horizontal.
Run out
Only one sensor placed horizontally is needed for runout measurement
Sensor mounting
The sensor must be position so that the distance between sensor and shaft is 4mm.
The sensor must be placed at the centre line of the shaft.
Sensor connection
Connect the sensor leads to the terminal block.
For the orbit measurement it is important that the sensors are connected as pairs.
With the horizontally placed sensors connected to terminals marked horizontal and
likewise for the vertical sensors.

Software Setup
Close the program
Edit the ‘INFO.INI’ File.
Save the file.
Restart program/Reboot PC
IMPORTANT! Close the program before editing the ini file. Otherwise all changes will
have no effect.
Find the entry ‘RPM_PULSES_PR_REV_DEV1=’ and change the value to the number
of counts per revolution for the RPM sensor.
Wiring schematics
Remote connection
To connect to the unit remotely use UltraVNC.
Can be downloaded at: http://www.uvnc.com/downloads/ultravnc.html
Exporting data
1. Connect to the PCBM system remotely. Alternatively connect a mouse and
a storage device.
2x USB for
Mouse and
Storage device
2. Close the PCBM software, by press the red button in the top right corner.
5. Reboot the computer by pressing the power button, ones for power down
and a second time for bootup.
Trouble shooting
Most problems can be solved by rebooting the system.
If remote access is available, it is the easiest way. Just connect and reboot the
system.
If remote access is not available, open the box and press the power button for at
least 5 seconds. The system the shots down, wait a moment and press the power
button again to power up the system.
