3. Wind Load
F = (Cpe - Cpi) x A x Pd
where,
Cpe ,Cpi = force coefficient for exterior and interior of the
building. As per IS Code 975: Vol(iii)
A = Effective area of the structure
Pz = Wind pressure at height z = 0.6 Vz2
Vz = design wind speed (m/s) at any height z above ground
= K1 x K 2 x K 3 x K 4 x V b
Vb = basic wind speed at any location
K1 = probability factor or risk factor
K2 = terrain, height, structure size factor
K3 = topography factor 1 for upward slope <3⁰
K4 = importance factor for cyclone region (1 for non cyclone region)
Pd = Design wind pressure = Pz x Kd x Ka x Kc
Kd = wind directional factor
Ka = area averaging factor
Kc = combination factor
Character of Structure
i. Type of slope and Building
Access is not provided on sloping roof.
ii. Terrain Categories = 3
Terran with numerious closely spaced large and high obstruction.
iii. Building/ Structure Class= A
Structure and/ or their components such as cladding, glazing, roofing etc. having maximum
dimension (greatest) horizontal or vertical dimension less than 20m.
F = (Cpe - Cpi) x A x Pd
Case-I: Wind Normal the Ridge (q=0⁰), with -ve Cpi
Wind ward Pressure = (-0.73 + 0.2) x 768.299 = -402.87 N/m2 UPWARD
Lee ward Pressure = (-0.4 + 0.2) x 768.299 = -153.66 N/m2 UPWARD
F = (Cpe - Cpi) x A x Pd
Case-III: Wind Parallel the Ridge (q=90⁰), with +ve Cpi
Wind ward Pressure = (-0.75 - 0.2) x 768.299 = -722.62 N/m2 UPWARD
Lee ward Pressure = (-0.6 - 0.2) x 768.299 = -614.64 N/m2 UPWARD
