Sean Blake. Candidate, Mentor city council, Ward one Specific areas to change/address 1) Mentor is approaching a cross roads in our development. We cannot govern this city like it is still 1990. The many vacancies in our retail and industrial zones need our immediate attention. I would like our Planning Commission to take a lead on developing a comprehensive plan to make these areas once again attractive for business growth. Eliminating arrogance and seeking compromise would be very helpful. In the present day economy we cannot afford any more business and job losses. 2) We need to search out new opportunities for Job growth for Mentor. My idea is the marketing of Mentor to all the medical businesses that will locate within the Medical Mart in Cleveland. These businesses will need warehouse, commercial and possibly even manufacturing support sites. These companies could sell out of their Mentor sites for 1.5% less in sales tax as compared to the tax rate in Solon or Westlake. 3) We need to clean our sewersl It has been a long time since I have seen maintenance sewer cleaning being done. While walking during this campaign I have looked down hundreds of sewer grates. Most are filled with silt from our retention ponds, mixed with leaves and other debris. In my Job as a home Physical Therapist, I travel from community to community in our region. For the past 25 years I have closely studied what works and what does not work in these cities. I would like to bring this insight to Mentor City Council. In Mentor we have a fantastic quality of life and excellent city services, but the future holds no guaranties. We have to plan for our continued success.
