those travelers who seeks outdoor adventure and natural scenery. Candulawan Trail
offers various recreational activities, including swimming, picnicking, and river trekking.
Its gentle currents and serene ambiance appeal to individuals and families seeking
outdoor leisure and relaxation. However, the area faces several challenges that affect its
tourism potential and overall sustainability.

One significant challenge is the limited access to the trail, which requires a knowledgeable
tour guide to navigate safely. Without proper guidance and caution, visitors to the
Candulawan Trail in Bulacao, Cebu City may be exposed to various risks and hazards.
Lack of institutional resources, such as government support and funding, which hinders
the development and maintenance of the area. Lack of resources makes it difficult to
improve infrastructure, such as roads, , and facilities, to accommodate more tourists and
enhance their experience. Upon conducting research, it has been discovered that the
Candulawan Trail is susceptible to flooding, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall
or in the occurrence of typhoons. The risk of flooding along the Candulawan River is
intensified due to inadequate drainage systems, deforestation, and improper urban
planning. This unfavorable situation can result in detrimental consequences such as
property damage and significant disruptions to daily life.

Despite these challenges, Candulawan Trail has the potential to attract more visitors and
provide economic opportunities for the local community. To achieve this, there is a need
for concerted efforts from the government, private sector, and local community to
address the challenges and develop sustainable tourism practices that prioritize the
preservation of the area's natural resources and enhance visitor experience
Aside from its beauty and potential as a tourist attraction, promoting the Candulawan
Trail would provide job opportunities for locals, ultimately leading to an improvement in
the economy. Developing Candulawan Trail brings about a range of benefits, including
environmental conservation, sustainable water resource management, economic
opportunities, community well-being, flood mitigation, and educational value. By
recognizing and promoting the importance of the river, the community can harness its
full potential and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable environment.

hiking and biking to camping and fishing and at the end of the day you can relax by the
beautiful nature, enjoying the company of fellow travelers as you soak in the breathtaking
scenery.

These outdoor activities can relieve stress and can improve your health. Exposure to

from within the town. Followed by 15 respondents within province, next is 3 respondents
outside the province and two respondents outside the country.

Position statement

The Candulawan Trail is currently in the development stage based on the tourism
area life cycle by Richard Butler. This stage marks a crucial period where efforts are
focused on establishing the necessary infrastructure, amenities, and services to attract
and accommodate visitors. While facing challenges associated with limited resources and
budget constraints, the development of the Candulawan Trail aims to position it as a
prominent tourist destination, offering unique experiences in harmony with its natural
surroundings.

During the development stage, the primary goal is to lay the foundation for sustainable
tourism growth. This involves conducting feasibility studies, formulating development
plans, and securing funding for infrastructure projects. In the case of the Candulawan
Trail, the focus lies in creating a safe and accessible pathway that showcases the region's
natural beauty while preserving its ecological integrity. By focusing on infrastructure
development, improving amenities, implementing effective marketing strategies, and
incorporating sustainable practices, the trail can attract visitors, generate economic

The desired future situation in tourism development for Candulawan Trail,

destination. This would involve preserving the natural beauty of the river and surrounding
area, while also providing adequate infrastructure and facilities for visitors. Enhancing the
accessibility of the area by improving roads and transportation options. Providing
accommodations for tourists, such as restrooms, safety railings, and campsites.
Developing ecotourism activities, such as hiking, camping, river kayaking, and nature
walks, that showcase the area’s natural beauty.

Encouraging the development of local businesses, such as restaurants and souvenir


shops, to provide economic opportunities for the community. Implementing sustainable
tourism practices, such as waste management and conservation efforts, to ensure the
long-term viability of the area. Ultimately, the desired future situation would be for

stairs, alongside proper signage to prevent tourists from getting lost. It is also proposed

agencies, online promotions, and participation in tourism trade shows and events.

Collaborate with Local Stakeholders: Engage with local businesses, community


organizations, and government agencies to foster collaboration and support. By working
together, we can leverage their expertise, resources, and networks to enhance the

Provide Information and Direction: Establish visitor information centers or kiosks

identifying any issues to address. Regularly monitoring online review platforms helps
assess visitor feedback and respond appropriately. Analyzing revenue and spending data
offers insights into the financial performance of the tourist spot, while perception surveys
among potential visitors help understand their motivations and preferences. Assessing
the environmental impact of the spot ensures sustainable practices are in place.
