INTRODUCCION
The Chullachaqui is a
demon of small stature, who say they have seen him, they
maintain that he wears a large straw hat that hides a wrinkled
face, in which a prominent nose, pointed ears and red eyes
stand out. He is barely over a meter tall and wears very dirty
rags. Others say that he walks hunched over and with his feet
on one side. But the main characteristic, from which it derives
its name, refers to its feet: one is from a human and the other
from an animal, which could be deer, sajino, turtle, rooster,
etc).
The name of this malicious dwarf derives from two Quechua
words. Chulla; which means uneven or dissimilar. The other
word is Chaqui, which means; foot. What can be understood
as: Uneven Feet.
It inhabits the depths of the dense jungle of Iquitos, with the
ability to transmute into a child, a relative of the victim who
stalks or an acquaintance.
The Chullachaqui widely known in Madre de Dios, the jungle
part of Cuzco, Tingo María, Loreto, San Martín and Ucayali.
Also in Huánuco, where it is known by tsulla chaki which
means "one foot"; They say they get scared when you yell in
their ear, but you have to be calm while doing it. In other
regions of the Peruvian jungle, the duende is also known as:
"shapshico" and "ishingo".
He is considered Guardian of the forest; instills respect and
fear in friends and strangers. It is associated or related, often,
with the devil, in some variants, and in part, with demonic
beings. In addition, they say that it is not only one, but
several. In other beliefs, the Chullachaqui is believed to
originate from a relationship between a duende and a demon,
being a hybrid species between duende and demon.
It is generally presented to those who walk alone on the trails.
According to popular tradition, he sometimes presents
himself in a friendly manner and gives gifts from the Jungle,
as long as the person who receives them does not state the
origin of his good luck; other times he is aggressive. But,
usually, it only unleashes its aggression towards sinful,
corrupt or atheists.
It is said that the Chullachaqui steals the children to play with
them, but then returns them without hurting them. But for
others it is not like that, but these children if they disappear
and do not return again. There are those who affirm that these
children could be manipulated by the Chullachaqui, after
dying lost in the jungle.
But according to the inhabitants of Iquitos, he tends to
transform into anyone with the sole desire to make you lose
yourself deep in the jungle.
