Bandung Lautan Api was a fire that occurred
in the city of Bandung on March 24, 1946. Within
seven hours, about 200,000 residents of Bandung
burned their homes.
British troops as part of the Brigade
MacDonald arrived Bandung on October 12, 1945.
Bandung was deliberately burned by TRI and local
people. There were black smoke billowing high into
the air everywhere. The British Army began to
attack so fierce. The greatest battle happened in the
Village name Dayeuh Kolot, in South Bandung,
where there were a large ammunition depot
belonging to British. In this battle, Barisan Rakyat
Indonesia destroyed the ammunition depot.
The strategy to fire Bandung was considered

Rudy Hartono Kurniawan is a former
Indonesian badminton star who won the men's
singles titles at the prestigious All England
Championship eight times. He won seven times
consecutively between 1968 until 1974. He also
won at World Championship in 1980 on his only
attempt at this title. He is one of the most famous
players in the history of the sport and is considered
to be one of the greatest badminton players of all
time.
Rudy was born in Surabaya in August 18th,
1949. Rudy married Jane Anwar in 1976 and they
have two children. Rudy joined the National
Training Centre in 1965 in order to strengthen the
Indonesian national team in the upcoming Thomas
Cup. He won all of his matches in the competition,
but the team was beaten by Malaysia in the final. A
year later, at his first try at the All-England
Championship, the 18 years old Indonesian become
the youngest ever champion of the tournament.
From then on, Rudy dominated the event and
winning eight titles from 1968 to 1976. His eight
titles at the All England earned Rudy a mention in
the Guinness Book of Records.
Rudy became involved with the Indonesian
Badminton Association (PBSI), holding different
positions, such as Chairman of Development
Affairs until 2006. He is currently a member of
PBSI's board of Honor. Rudy also played an active
role within the Badminton World Federation
(BWF). He was a member of council in 1985-1986,
and later from 1994-2009. Rudy's image and
reputation led the United Nations Development
Program (UNDP) to appoint him as a Goodwill
