1. Think of a topic related to your field of specification.

2. Indicate how you can apply constructivism for your students to construct their own
understanding of the topic. The first one is partially done for you.

Topic: Poetry
Grade/year level: Grade 8
Constructivist Implications What will I do to teach the topic?

Have few key ideas I will emphasize the following key ideas.

Give varied examples I will use a number of interesting and

interactive approaches to teach poetry to grade
8 students. I will teach many genres of poetry,
analyze poems, perform and recite poems, and
conduct writing activities.

Provide opportunities for experimentation I will develop a teaching environment that

supports poetry writing exploration and
experimentation. I will use poetry writing
prompts, free writing sessions, performance,
and presentation to create possibilities for
experimentation while teaching poetry to
grade 8 pupils.
Provide lots of opportunities for quality I will establish an engaging and active
interaction learning atmosphere in which students
actively interact with poetry. I am going to
create group discussions, pair and share,
poetry analysis, collaborative poetry projects,
poetry debates, poetry diaries, blogs, and
poetry events to give many possibilities for
quality engagement while teaching poetry to
grade 8 students.
Have lots of hands-on activities Hands-on exercises engage many senses,
foster creativity, and offer students with a
greater knowledge and enjoyment of poetry. I
will engage them to poetry notebooks, spoken
word performances, poetry collage, poetry
performance, poetry and music to combine
plenty of hands-on activities while teaching
poetry to grade 8 children.
Relate your topic to real life situations I will apply poetry to real-life events to assist
students acquire a greater understanding and
respect for the power of poetry. I will use
poetry to express feelings that they can’t
express through poetry, as well as to reflect on
current events or concerns, historical
background, and student poetry projects. I will
establish a welcoming environment in which
students may freely express ideas and
experiences.
Do not depend on the explanation method all To teach the topic of poetry in grade 8, I can

writing, visual and multimedia interpretation,
