As a Muslim state, every sector of our society in Pakistan is influenced by Islam to a
certain degree. Consequently, our Islamic education, starts from home, and it becomes
concrete during our academic life. Even at university, every student must take Islamic
studies as a mandatory course till B.A level. And in my experience, there exists an
attempt to impart Islamic knowledge without correctly decoding it. Thus, over time
our inability to understand Islamic beliefs either takes us away from Islam or turns us
into intolerant beings who fiercely defend it on baseless claims. It was an effort to
avoid similar paths that inspired me to think critically and use reason – tools that help
make sense of any religion.
I Benish Haseeb student of University of the Punjab . I did my BS from this university
and graduated in 2021. In 2021 I applied at University of the Punjab For M.phil in
Islamic studies with the specialisation of Usul-e- din.
As a Muslim, I have always been curious about the effects of social media on society,
particularly in the context of Islamic teachings. With the advent of social media, the
way we communicate and interact has drastically changed, bringing both
opportunities and challenges.
My research will focus on how social media has affected the academic and social
environments of universities in Lahore. I am interested in exploring the positive and
negative impacts of social media on the academic performance of students as well as
their social behavior. Additionally, I will investigate the ethical issues related to the
use of social media in universities in the light of Islamic teachings.
I am confident that the Ph.D. program will provide me with the necessary skills and
knowledge to conduct high-quality research on this topic. I am eager to contribute to
the academic community through my research. I look forward to joining the esteemed
faculty at University of the Punjab and working with fellow researchers to make
meaningful contributions to the field of social media studies.
