Introduction - Tyre Cord :-

It is provided that has a main portion and a

tabby.

The tire cord fabric is comprised of warp cords

oriented in the longitudinal direction and
weft yarns oriented in the lateral direction.

.
PARTS OF TYRE :
There are five main parts to an tyre
cord that help to accomplish this
feat.

1. Carcass
2. Breaker
3. Treads
4. The side walls
5. Bead
The carcass is the most important
part of the tyre as it supports the full
load.

Side wall is a rubber sheet 1.5-3.5

.
mm thick protecting the carcass
and tube from mechanical damages
and moisture penetration.
PROPERTIES OF NYLON 6.6

• Nylon 66 tends to form strong inter chain hydrogen

bonds. This results in a stronger & more crystalline
polymer that softens or melts at relatively higher
temperature.

• It has a higher tensile strength and is less subjected to

shrinkage.

• Better fatigue resistance.

• Higher resonance frequency.

• No flat spotting.
• High Breaking Strength.
• High Elasticity.
• Good heat resistance.
• Low hygroscopic.
• High resistance to multiple deformations
during stretching.
• Compression.
• Bending and Rubbing.
• The fatigue strength.
• Proper adhesion of cord with rubber.
• Uniformity of all properties and structure.

Composition:

The Nylons are polyamides with recurring amide

groups. It contains

carbon,

oxygen,

nitrogen and

Hydrogen elements.
1.Tensile strength :

Tensile strength measures the force required to pull

something such as rope, wire, or a structural beam to
the point where it breaks.

2.Low density.

Density is defined as mass divided by volume, it

means nylon fabric is light weight.
3.High Adhesion strength :

Pull-off adhesion testing is a measure of the

resistance of a coating to separation from a
substrate when a perpendicular tensile force is
applied.
• Abrasion Resistance.

• Definition:
• The ability of a material to withstand mechanical
action such as rubbing, scraping, or erosion, that
tends progressively to remove material from its
surface.
• Such an ability helps to maintain the material's
original appearance and structure.
• Resilience:

• Nylon fabrics have excellent resilience. Nylon

fabrics retain their smooth appearance and the
wrinkles from the usual daily activities can be
removed easily.

• Resilience is the ability of a material to absorb

energy when it is deformed elastically, and
release that energy upon unloading.

• The modulus of resilience is defined as the

maximum energy that can be absorbed per unit
volume without creating a permanent distortion.
Elasticity:

Nylon has good elasticity which makes it much

suitable for the apparel purposes.

The excellent elasticity would mean that the nylon

materials return to their original length and shreds
the wrinkles .

Nylon like other fibres has its own limit of elasticity.

If stretched too much, it will not completely
recover its shape.

The high elongation and excellent elastic recovery

of nylon contributes to the outstanding
performance in hosiery.
STRUCTURE OF TYRE CORD FABRIC
 The cord fabric consists of yarns of a linear
density of 500 tex in warp .
 common cotton yarns with a linear density of
16.6-25 tex in weft.
 The properties of cord depend on the number
of plies of thinner and number of twists to be
given in yarn.
Steps of manufacturing tyre cord-
1. Spinning- By melt spinning we get
filaments.
2. Twisting-
Its purpose is to-
 To prevent filament breakage.
 Improved coherence of yarns.
 To improve fatigue resistance.
 To improve weaving workability.
3. Cabling- It is done by ply cable
winding machine. Yarn tension
of about 0.02 cN/tex is
recommended.
4. Weaving
5. Dipping
6. Vulcanization- It is a process by which rubber is
heated with sulphur to create a network of
chemical cross-links.
NEW DEVELOPMENTS :

 For high load lifting capacity cord is made

for steel yarn.

 Cord is manufactured of glass fibres in

some countries.

 In recent years, cushion cord fabric for

these tyre is usually made from stiff fibers
with the minimum elongation.
