Morganelli Presents $10,000 Check to Police For K-9 Unit

He said hes been getting good responses. K-9 Units appear to be one of the fastest growing tools for police in their fight against crime. This proposed addition to the Bangor Police Department may one day touch your life or that of a loved one. Mayor John Brown said The intention to bring Mr. Morganelli to Bangor was to help him understand the changes in the Borough. He learned what the Borough needs directly from business owners and community leaders. In the morning we had a Breakfast meeting with officials from neighboring Slate Belt communities. It was a very successful visit from the perspective of the groups involved, Morganelli said.

Interim Administrator, and Bonnie LaBar, Chair of Design/ Physical Improvements, BBRP.

Recently, District Attorney John Morganelli visited Bangor. The day was arranged by Mayor Brown and Council President Craig Roberts. Mr. Morganelli was a guest at a Welcome Breakfast where he met

with business owners and public officials. He participated in a walking tour of downtown Bangor. Mr. Morganelli presented a $10,000 check to Mayor John Brown towards the K-9 Unit which the Borough is initiating. The check is from drug

forfeiture money. Officer Kevin Jones wrote a K-9 Unit proposal. John Kasden, Bangor Borough Manager, said Council approved at their September meeting, the procurement of a K-9 unit. Kasden sent out letters requesting donations for the Fund.

Yvonne Roberts Donates Hair to Beautiful Lengths

Yvonne Roberts, daughter of Arthur Vennel, donated 10 inches of her hair, on his birthday, to "Beautiful Lengths, a program from Pantene which is donated to cancer patients. This was done in memory of Arthur's wife, Katherine Vennel, who passed away in April of this year. Pantene created Beautiful Lengths because healthy hair means a lot, and the appearance of healthy hair means so much to women battling cancer. Pantene wants to be there for women when looking and feeling healthy is so important to them. As one breast cancer survivor put it, "It was very hard when my hair started falling out. It was coming out in chunks. It really takes away who you are when you look in the mirror." Many of the women they help say that putting on a wig makes them feel like them-

selves again. When you donate your hair to the cause, youre helping make that happen. Beautiful Lengths is a partnership between Pantene and the American Cancer Society, the largest nonprofit health organization committed to saving lives from every cancer, in every community, and improving the quality of life for people facing the disease.

The role of Pantene is to help women grow long, strong, beautiful hair and provide the funds to turn this hair into free, real-hair wigs for women with cancer. So far, Pantene has donated 18,000 free real-hair wigs to the American Cancer Societys wig banks which distribute wigs to cancer patients across the country. Theyre currently the countrys

largest donor of real-hair wigs through the American Cancer Society. Because real-hair wigs are expensive, and many women with cancer cant afford them, demand for these wigs is high. They can only create as many wigs as donations, so your part is critical to improving the lives of as many women as possible.

The Top Five Worst Household OdorsAnd How To Handle Them

(NAPSI)Call them Americas Most Unwanted. Theyve been known to hold entire households hostage, causing shortness of breath, nausea and panic in their victims. At the very least, they keep home sweet home from smelling so sweet. The culprits are household odors and these are the worst of the worst. According to a recent nationwide survey, more than eight out of 10 Americans think rotting garbage or garbage can odor is the most offensive household smell. Rounding out the top five, in order, were pet odors, mold, body odor/sweat and tobacco odor. Nearly 70 percent of all respondents ranked these five smells as the worst smells in the home, with significantly more women (75 percent) turning their noses up at tobacco odors as compared to men (59 percent). Fortunately for men and women, simply vacuuming can eliminate many household odors. Because odors are commonly trapped in carpets, these foul five are some of the most notoriously difficult to eliminate, said Leiah Nhem, product manager for ARM & HAMMER vacuum accessories. Vacuuming is an important first step in safely and naturally eliminating these odors from your home. Instead of covering up the offensive odors, ARM & HAMMER vacuum accessories eliminate smells through the natural odor-fighting power of baking soda. As air moves through the vacuum, the odor comes in contact with baking soda crystals that are bonded to the bags and filters. The odor is then permanently sealed inside the crystalsturning even the most offending odor particle into a new, non-odorous form. Vacuums with a HEPA filter trap and remove odor-causing particles such as pet dander, mold spores, dust and other allergens up to 75 times smaller than a human hair. These microscopic fragments can ferment in carpeting and upholstery, creating the acidic fumes that result in unpleasant odors. Some of the biggest odor complaints from the survey are smells that can originate from the tiniest of particles, such as mold or pet hair. These stubborn odors reappear after traditional remedies such as air fresheners or candles lose their strength, but using odor-eliminating vacuum bags and filters can help permanently and naturally-

Scientists say the human nose can pick up on 10,000 scents. Getting rid of some of the worst may now be a bit easier. neutralize odors so visit the website, theyre gone for good. www.armhammervac.c For more information, om.

Bulb Myths Debunked

(NAPSI)Heres a bright idea: It may be time to get with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). Soon, standard incandescent bulbs are going away as a result of continued demand for more energy-efficient lighting products as well as U.S. federal lighting efficiency standards. Though CFLs save considerable money on electricity bills and light homes with a bright, white light, myths still surround them. To help, industryleading experts from GE Lighting are shedding some light on myths and questions, including lighting legislation changes, at www.gelighting.com/20 12. Among the myths: Myth: CFLs contain high levels of mercury. GE CFLs contain a very small amount, 2 milligrams on average, which is smaller than a ballpoint pen tip. By comparison, older home thermometers contain 500 milligrams of mercury. Myth: CFLs give people headaches. Anecdotal reports of headaches are very rare, and there is currently no scientific evidence that CFLs cause headaches. To learn more about advancements in CFL technologies, as well as halogen and lightemitting diode (LED) light bulb options, visit www.gelighting.com.
