Worksheet task:
1. The RLE 1M worksheet is an individual activity but we will be utilizing the RLE,
Skills Lab groupings for the assignment of cases.
2. Read and analyze the case assigned to you and its corresponding laboratory test result.
For each case, do the following tasks:
a. Write ten (10) nursing responsibilities before, during, and after the specimen
needed is taken.
b. Make use of the table below and interpret the laboratory test result presented and
explain its clinical significance.

RLE 1: Significance of Laboratory Results Worksheet
Case #1: Mast. T.M., 3 months old, male was admitted at the emergency room. Five days prior
to admission, his mother has stated that he has complaints of cough, fever, dyspnea, vomiting,
and diarrhea. He was diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia. Attached below is the
result of his complete blood count.
Case #2: DGL is a 1-year-old boy. Vital signs: T: 38.5 °C, Pulse Rate: 90 bpm, RR: 35 bpm. The
Physician ordered for a Urinalysis.

Case #3: Mr. AKT is a 50-year-old male. He’s been a chronic drinker and smoker since the age
of 20. He is diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. The physician ordered to have her blood
chemistry and serum levels checked.
Case #4: Mr. VMG is 40-year-old male. Two days prior to admission, he felt severe sudden pain
on the right upper abdomen accompanied fever, nausea and vomiting. He is diagnosed with
cholelithiasis. Here is the result of his stool exam.

Case #5: Mr. HHT is a 55-year-old male. He’s been coughing for 2 weeks with a productive
sputum. He also lost his appetite and lost a lot of weight. He’s a chronic smoker and consumes
20 sticks of cigarettes in a day. He is diagnosed to have a Pulmonary Tuberculosis.

Case #6: Mrs. BS is a 30-year-old female. Based on her BMI she is in Obese class 2. Recently,
she’s been experiencing chest tightness and difficulty in breathing even in just a short walk. The
physician ordered to have her blood chemistry and serum levels checked.
Case #7: LPT is a 2-year-old toddler. Her mother rushed her in the hospital due to passing of
greenish liquid stool since yesterday and consumed more than 10 diapers. She has less appetite
too during breastfeeding. Her mother informed the physician that she just introduced a new
vegetable to her this week. The physician ordered a stool exam with occult blood test.
Case #8: Ms. MAE is a 13-year-old Grade 7 female student. She loves to eat junk foods and
doesn’t drink water too often. Two days prior to check up, she experienced pain upon urination
and a Temperature of 39C. The physician ordered to have her urine checked.
