A girl named Dorothy and her dog Toto live in a farmhouse
in the middle of the great Kansas prairies. One day, her
farmhouse is whisked away by a cyclone.

Dorothy begins to walk along the yellow brick road. She
notices a scarecrow high on a pole to keep birds from eating
the ripe corn.
Scarecrow explains that because he is stuffed with straw, he
has not got a brain.
After telling Scarecrow about the Great Oz, he asks to walk
with Dorothy to meet him in the hope that Oz will be able to
give him a brain.

Witch of the North, the Witch of the East and some peculiar
people called the Munchkins.
The witches tell Dorothy to follow the yellow brick road to the
Emerald City, to see if Oz can help her return to Kansas.

As they walk, they hear a groan that seems to come
from behind them. They turn and walk towards the
forest, noticing something shining in a ray of sunlight.
It was a motionless man made entirely of tin.
The Tin Man tells Dorothy that he needs an oilcan so he can
oil his joints. They are rusted so badly that he cannot
move them at all.
Tin Man wonders if the Great Oz could
give him a heart. After Dorothy oils his
joints, Tin Man asks to walk with her
to meet the Great Oz in the hope that
Oz will be able to give him a heart.

As the group walk along the yellow brick road, they suddenly
hear a terrible roar erupting from the forest, quickly followed
by a lion bounding into the road.
With a blow of his paw, the lion strikes the Tin Man with his
sharp claws. To his surprise, it makes no mark on the tin but
knocks Tin Man over.

After telling Lion about the Great Oz, Lion asks to walk with
Dorothy to meet him in the hope that he will be able to give
him courage.

Toto runs barking towards the lion and Lion snarls his teeth.
Dorothy jumps forwards and tells Lion to not bite Toto. She
tells him he is nothing but a big coward.
Lion, hanging his head in shame, says, “I know it, I’ve always
known it, but how can I help it?”

After following the yellow brick road for a few days, Dorothy
and her friends finally reach the Emerald City. It is a green
city, full of green-coloured buildings and people wearing green-
tinted spectacles.

The Great Oz appears and insists that before he will help
Dorothy and her friends, they must do him a big favour. The
Great Oz explains that he will not send Dorothy home or help
her friends until she has killed the Wicked Witch of the West.

The group set off in search of the Wicked Witch of the West.
After travelling for some time, Dorothy and her friends lay to
rest upon some grass and fall asleep.
Meanwhile, the Wicked Witch of the West (who has an eye
as powerful as a telescope) happens to spot Dorothy and her
friends dozing in her land.

It is decided that the next morning, they will start upon their
journey to kill the Wicked Witch of the West.

In anger, the Wicked Witch of the West sends wolves
to attack Dorothy. Tin Man seizes his axe and protects
the group.
Next, the Wicked Witch of the West sends crows to pick out their
eyes and tear them to pieces. Scarecrow says that this is his
fight and asks the group to lay down beside him so they will
not be harmed. Scarecrow stretches out his arms and frightens
off the birds.
For her third attempt, the Wicked Witch of the West sends a
swarm of black bees and tells them to sting Dorothy and her
friends to death. Scarecrow tells them to take out his straw and
scatter it all over Dorothy, Toto and Lion. The bees come and find
only Scarecrow and Tin Man, whom they are unable to sting.

The Wicked Witch of the West cannot understand how all her
plans to destroy these strangers failed when she is a powerful,
wicked witch. Her final act is to come for Dorothy herself.

Instantly, the Wicked Witch of the West gives a loud shriek and
begins to shrink and melt away.

on her own.
In her anger, Dorothy picks up a bucket of water that stands

After defeating the Wicked Witch of the West, Dorothy and her
friends begin the walk back to the Emerald City.
On the way, they see a beautiful castle that is owned by
Glinda the Good Witch. They are admitted to the castle to
meet with Glinda at once.

 Leaving behind her friends in the very good hands of Glinda
Dorothy explains their remarkable journey and that her the Good Witch, Dorothy picks up Toto in her arms and says
greatest wish is to get back to Kansas to see Aunt Em. one last goodbye to her friends.

Glinda the Good Witch tells Dorothy that she can grant her She claps the heels of her shoes together three times and
the wish of returning to Kansas. repeats, “There’s no place like home.”

Instantly, Dorothy is whirling through the air so swiftly that

all she can see or feel is the wind whistling past her ears. She
rolls over in the grass several times before she knows where
she is — Kansas.
