INSTALLATION OF EYE BOLT AT CAPPING LINE ZIM

1.0   Purpose
1.1 The purpose is to provide guideline instructions for installation of eye bolt at
capping line ZIM.
2.0   Responsibility
2.1   Technicians and Maintenance executive.
2.2 Area Engineer
3.0   Resources
3.1   Eye Bolt, Washer, Nut, Split pin & Adjustable Spanner
3.2 PPE’s: Safety shoes, Safety goggles, Helmet, Cut resistance gloves.
4.0   Instruction: -
4.1 Planning
4.1.1 Ensure ZIM is in stand by condition and operator is not going to use until
the job is finished.
4.1.2 Hazard identification and risk assessment are an integral part of planning
and should be explained before proceeding.

4.2 Control
4.2.1 Lockout of Pneumatic valve should be taken before executing the job.
.4.2.2 Standard tools should be used to avoid any slip hazard.
4.2.3 Correct Part of Eye bolt and spare parts should be used as shown in the
image below.
4.2.4 Safety rope of 6 mm diameter should be fixed between fixture and hoist
hook, if eye bolt sheared or break than wire rope will be secondary protection.

4.3 Competence
4.3.1 All persons involved in planning/performing replacement of eye bolt shall
be trained and competent for their role.
4.3.2 Refresher training and periodic assessment is necessary to assure
competence.
4.4 Equipment
4.4.1 Equipment shall be fit for its intended purpose and operating conditions
and shall be designed to a recognized standard.
4.4.2 Ensure there is no free movement between eye bolt and fixture.
4.4.3 Equipment shall be fitted with appropriate safety devices.
4.4.4 Any safety devices installed on lifting equipment shall be operational and
not over-ridden. Inspection, maintenance, and certification.
4.4.5 Equipment integrity shall be maintained, supported by an equipment
register.
4.4.6 Lifting devices and equipment shall undergo detailed/thorough
examination by a competent person at least every 12 months, and at least every
6 months for equipment used to lift load.
4.4.7 All lifting devices and equipment shall be visually examined before use for
Load integrity and stability.
4.4.8 Load shall not exceed dynamic and/or static capacities of the lifting
equipment.
4.4.9 Eye bolt should tighten with primary nut and then locked with castle nut along
with split pin.
4.4.10 Inspection of eye bolt hole in fixture must be done prior to installation of
new eye bolt, deviation must be informed to direct supervisor or area engineer.
