Emergency Overview :
Hazards : No 8.3 in GB6944-86, Corrosive solid.
Routes of Entry : Skin Contact, Inhalation, Swallow
Health Hazards : Strong irritation to aspiration organs, eyes and skin. Dust inhalation can cause aspiration organs
reddening, cough, decompensation and lungs damage. Eyes contact can cause twinge, reddening and uncomfortable symptom
even irreversible eye damage and blindness. Skin contact for a long time may cause skin reddening, twinge and canker.
Environment Hazards : Correct utilization results no effects.
Explosion Danger : Produces irritative and choking gas (hydrogen bromide, hydrogen chloride/bromide gas and nitrogen
oxides) under strong light, fire and high temperature.

SECTION 3 - COMPOSITION, INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS

Chemical Name CAS No.

1-bromo-3-chloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin 32718-18-6

SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES

Description of first aid measures :

In case of eyes contact : Immediately hold eyelids apart and flush the eye continuously with running water. Ensure
complete irrigation of the eye by keeping eyelids apart and away from eye and moving the eyelids by occasionally lifting
the upper and lower lids. Continue flushing until advised to stop by the Poisons Information Centre or a doctor, or for
at least 15 minutes. Transport to hospital or doctor without delay. Removal of contact lenses after an eye injury should
only be undertaken by skilled personnel.
In case of skin contact: Immediately remove all contaminated clothing, including footwear. Flush skin with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists.
In case of inhalation : Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult,
give oxygen. If irritation or discomfort persists seek medical attention.
In case of ingestion : Rinse mouth out with plenty of water. Seek medical attention immediately. Call a poison control
center or doctor for treatment advice. Do NOT induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs, lean patient forward or place on left
side (head-down position, if possible) to maintain open airway and prevent aspiration. Observe the patient carefully. If
victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Avoid alcohol.
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed : Symptoms: Skin irritation, eye irritation, further
symptoms are possible.
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed : Treatment: Symptomatic treatment
(decontamination, vital functions).

SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

General Information: As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or
equivalent), and full protective gear. Strong oxidizer. Contact with combustible materials may cause a fire. During a fire,
irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Use water spray to keep
fire-exposed containers cool. Use water with caution and in flooding amounts. Contaminating or mixing with foreign materials
such as combustibles, grease, and fuels can cause fire. Containers may explode when heated.
Flash Point : No flash by standard methods.
Autoignition Temperature : N/A
Explosion Limits: N/A
Fire Extinguishing Media : Foam, dry ice, sand and water. DO NOT use CO2 or dry chemicals.

SECTION 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

General Information : Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks : Vacuum or sweep up material and place into a suitable disposal container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and
ditches which lead to waterways. Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the Protective Equipment section.
Avoid generating dusty conditions. Remove all sources of ignition. Provide ventilation. Do not get water inside containers.
Do not use combustible materials such as paper towels to clean up spill.

SECTION 7 - HANDLING AND STORAGE

Storage : Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Keep away from sources of ignition. Do not store near combustible
materials. Keep container closed when not in use. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated
area away from incompatible substances. Keep away from acids.
Storage Incompatibility : Segregate from acids, bases, oxidizers, reducing agents, organic chemicals.
Handling : Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use only in a well ventilated
area. Minimize dust generation and accumulation. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Keep container tightly closed.
Avoid contact with heat, sparks and flame. Avoid contact with clothing and other combustible materials. Do not ingest or
inhale. Discard contaminated shoes.

SECTION 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

Engineering Controls : Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a
safety shower. Use adequate ventilation to keep airborne concentrations low.
Personal Protective Equipment :
Eyes : Wear safety glasses or goggles.
Skin : To prevent repeated or prolonged contact, wear impervious gloves (made from rubber, nitrile or neoprene).
Clothing : Wear appropriate protective clothing to minimize contact with skin.
Respirators: Dust respirator, if necessary, combined with an absorption cartridge. Be sure to use an approved/certified
respirator or equivalent.
Exposure Limits : Not available.

LD50 (rat, oral) : 578 mg/kg
LD50 (rat, dermal) : >2,000 mg/kg
LC50 (rat) : 168mg/m3
Irritation : Corrosive to the skin. The primary skin irritation index was calculated to be 6.1.
Subsidiary and Chronic Toxicity : None.
Sensitization : Prolonged or repeated skin contact with solid BCDMH resulted in minor reddening of the skin and superficial
necrosis with the development of excessive exfoliation. Contact with dilute solutions of 0.1% or less was not irritating to
the skin. Eye contacts with BCDMH powder result in persistent severe conjunctival irritation and slow development of corneal
damage in rabbits. Washing the eye promptly resulted in a significant reduction of adverse effects. Dilute solutions of 0.1%
or less were non-irritating to the eyes.
Mutagenicity : Tested for potential mutagenic effects using Salmonella and Saccharomyces. All the results of the tests were
negative.
Deformity : No deformity to rat sperm.
