Selena Quintanilla was born in Texas, United States on April 16, 1971.

She was a Mexican-American singer of Tejano, ranchera, ballad and


cumbia music.
She is known as "the queen of Tex-Mex".

She began her musical career at the age of 9 with her brothers; she
recorded her first album at the age of 12.

She received in 1987 the award for Best Female Vocalist at the
Tejano Music Awards, and signed a recording contract with EMI a few
years later.

Wife of guitarist Chris Pérez, Selena was murdered with a shot in the
back at the age of 23 by Yolanda Saldívar, the president of her fan
club, who summoned her to room 158 of the Days Inn motel, in
Corpus Christi, on March 31, 1995.

On May 25 in Corpus Christi, Texas, El Mirador de la Flor is


inaugurated, a place that has a bronze statue in honor of Selena.
