Course Description
This course provides a basic introduction to wireless communication and mobile computing. The
topics covered include: cellular wireless communication, wireless LAN, mobile computing
principles and technologies, evolution/history of mobile computing, challenge in mobile
computing, Mobile IP and Wireless Access Protocol, mobile web development, and mobile
application development. The course will also discuss higher level issues of wireless applications
and wireless application protocol (WAP).
Course Objective
To study the fundamental concepts and basic technologies needed in wireless communication
and the development of mobile application.

 Mobile computing platform services
 Middleware
 Wireless Application protocol (WAP)
 Wireless Markup Language (WML)
 Voice Communications and Voice XML
UNIT III: Wireless Communication Fundamentals –Week 6 & 7
 Basic frequencies of wireless communication
 Signals and signals propagation
 The fundamental concept of antenna
UNIT IV: Building Mobile Applications- Week 8, 9 & 10
 Native apps and web apps
 HTML 5 basics, JavaScript, local storage and Geo location
 Native mobile application on android such as activity, task, services, content providers,
broadcast receiver and intent
 Android emulators
UNIT V: Wireless System –Week 11, 12 & 13
 Wireless communication and Wireless LANs
 Cellular systems
 Satellite systems
 Paging systems
 Personal Area Networks and Adhoc wireless networks
