INTRODUCTION

Kemiko Pharmaceuticals Limited is a pharmaceuticals finished products

manufacturer company in Bangladesh and was established on the 12th January 1986,
located at Tikapara, Ghoramara in Rajshahi Divisional city which stands on the bank of
the river Padma, is one of largest rivers in Bangladesh. It is away from the Capital city of
Dhaka (244 km) and in northern part of Bangladesh. The total factory land is 0.456 acre
with a working area of 21197 square feet. A new six storied building was constructed in
2008 and linked to the adjacent aged building in the east. Another two storied building
was constructed in the east side of the new six storied building in 2009 and used for
manufacturing veterinary and herbal products.

Kemiko Pharmaceuticals Limited is one of the leading and fastest growing

Pharmaceuticals Companies in Bangladesh which was established and incorporated
with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies in 1986 as Chemico Laboratories Ltd.
Later in 2011 it was transformed into Kemiko Pharmaceuticals Limited.

The Company is manufacturing wide range of high quality Allopathic, Herbal, Food
Supplement and Animal Health care products and operating its marketing activities in
every corner of the country for around 30 years. We have a leading portfolio of products
and medicines that support wellness and prevention, as well as treatment and cures for
diseases across a broad range of therapeutic areas.

M A Kalam, Chairman of KPL has proven how to build business organizations yielding

him, in course of time, has been transformed into a business conglomerate with the
visionary journey carried by strong inherence into self-confidence; can-do attitude and
willingness to do something better for the people and fraternity. Kemiko
Pharmaceuticals Ltd., a sister concern of Excelsior group which is a prominent
business body in Bangladesh flag shipped also by Pharma Aids, Excelsior Shoes,
Excelsior Garments, Bengal Biscuits had been always showered with positive
challenge and have been moving forward by this creative leader - M A Kalam.

He has established Kemiko as a manufacturer of quality products without compromising

any standard in terms of using raw materials, manufacturing process and quality control.
Born in 1945 in southern district Barisal, M A Kalam attained a masters degree in
Economics and Chartered Secretary (Final part–1) from UK has been giving his
continuous effort for the welfare of mankind.

Managing Director

Nurul Akhter Aurora, Manging Director of Kemiko Pharmaceuticals Ltd., a renowned

name as a female entrepreneur in Bangladesh. She was awarded for her excellence
leadership and symbol of empowering women in the country. Kemiko has been brought
up in her lap as she took the responsibility of a mother of this organization. To motivate
the field forces, to build relationship with the key opinion molders, to overcome different
business tangles and overall to develop the Company with a sustainable growing
approach; she always spreads her hands in every possible sphere. Born in northern
district Jamalpur in 1947, Nurul Akhter Aurora, a science graduate, an excellence and
prudent business personality leads very simple and honest life despite her position.
Barrister M N K Aswad
Director

The young leader in pharmaceuticals industry has been propelling Kemiko to reach its
goal through making the Company synonymous to “trust and quality”. Though the
Company laid the foundation stone around 3 decades ago, it has been focused to the
stakeholders with its most advanced, modern & sophisticated integration of use of
technology, machineries, quality assurance, marketing mix and customer satisfaction
tools developed and implemented by Company Director. He eyes to uphold Kemiko in
the first row and devoting his merit, innate ability and leadership quality to attain the
same. An Economics graduate from the University of Essex, London followed by CPE in
Law, Brunel University, London and subsequently BVC from Northumbria University,
Newcastle and Bar-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn enriched him to lead any mammoth team
aiming to bring the maximum output which had been proving day after day from his
joining in the Company.

Md. FAZLUL HOQUE

Director

Md. Fazlul Hoque, aged 43, is the Director. He joined Kemiko Pharmaceuticals Ltd. on
1st July, 2008. He did his M. Sc in Chemistry, M. Phil in Biochemistry & Molecular
Biology. Prior to joining Kemiko Pharmaceuticals Ltd., he served in GACO
Pharmaceuticals for 8 years in Production Department. He also served Drug
International in Production Department. In total he brings more than 19 years of relevant
job experience within the Pharmaceutical industry. He participated in different training
and courses at home and abroad regarding manufacturing operations which enrich him
expert in this arena.

As a Board of Director of Kemiko Pharmaceuticals Ltd., he is looking after the total

operations of the manufacturing plant.

Md. Shah Jalal

Executive Director

Md. Shah Jalal, Executive Director of KPL joined the Company in 1988 in an entry level
position and with his dedication, sincerity, hard labour and loyalty – gained this superior
position. Within the period from his starting, he has been engaged himself in different
types of activities and touched almost all of the departmental jobs like Regulatory,
Commercial, Product Management, Accounts, Finance and advisory services of
corporate affairs prior to achieve his present position. He is the Advisor of the
Association of Regulatory Affairs of Pharmaceuticals Company of Bangladesh.

Born in Chandina, Comilla, in 1966, completed his masters degree on Law, Md. Shah
Jalal is recognized as welcoming, choosy and silver-tongued personality to his family,
friends and acquaintances. He is a man of philanthropic minded and has been doing
many social works for the welfare of the society. He is the Chairman of Oraine High
School and Founder Chairman of Oraine Hafizia Madrasa, Eatimkhana & Old Home in
Chandina, Comilla.

M Shahid Iqbal Sarkar

Marketing Director

M Shahid Iqbal Sarkar has joined in the KPL in 2016 as Marketing Director and has
been working in Pharmaceuticals for the last 23 (twenty three) years. He is a medical
graduate from Rajshahi Medical College. He started his pharmaceutical career as
Medical Services Officer at Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited in the year 1994. Dr.
Sarkar then worked as Head of Medical Services at Opsonin Pharmaceuticals Limited in
the year 2000 to 2003. He worked as Scientific Project Manager in a France
Multinational, Servier Bangladesh Operation. He worked as Operations Manager in
Popular Pharmaceuticals Limited, National Sales and Promotion Manager in Novo
Healthcare and as General Manager and Finally Chief Operating Officer in Biopharma
Limited. He visited China, Thailand, India and France and took part in several marketing
training and workshops. He has core competency in medico-marketing, market
research, product promotion and pharmaceuticals product selling and distribution.

MANUFACTURING FACILITY
The respective manufacturing areas have been arranged with proper modern machinery
and equipment with easily cleanable facilities. All the areas are built with suitable
construction materials, walls and floors are epoxy painted, covings are made on the
corner walls for easy cleaning, completed with necessary in-line stainless steel pipe
works with Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, adequate lighting
and instant supply of compressed air, appropriate power lines, drinkable, purified and
distilled water with highest purity.

Sterile products manufacturing areas are independent, dedicated and separated from
general non-sterile manufacturing areas with facilities for ampoule washing, drying,
filling-sealing and sterilization. The arrangements for utilities are similar to that of non-
sterile manufacturing areas but with sufficient HEPA filter installation to ensure
contamination-free clean environment as per GMP for parenteral preparations. The
entrance is maintained with double-door entry system and pass boxes have been set up
for the access of production materials. Filling-sealing are done in 100 class room and
under laminar air flow with a minimum velocity of 0.45 meters/second. The efficiency of
HEPA filters are periodically checked by out-side engineers on contract basis. Room:
Class 100 (Grade B) and Under LAF: Class 100 (Grade A)

In addition to the central packaging area with temperature and humidity controlled, there
are arrangements for in line primary packaging system by both manually and
automatically. Traceability of the products under packaging is strictly maintained.

The starting materials, packaging materials and finished products are stored in suitably
conditioned areas as per GMP.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Our Total Quality System is our key strength. We strive to achieve and use the most
advanced technology for quality control at each and every stage of the manufacturing
process. We expect to achieve quality business through understanding, accepting,
meeting and fulfilling customer expectations. The company ensures current Good
Manufacturing Practices as recommended by WHO in its operational procedures.

To achieve the quality objective, the following activities are adopted:

• Ensuring fulfillment of regulatory requirements.

• Establishing specifications and control procedures for all materials – Starting,
intermediates and finished products.
• Monitoring of systems to ensure implementation of GMP/GLP in routine
operation.
• Identification of those parts of the process where in-process control checks are
required and its implementation.
• Establishing proper batch documentation system.
• Ensuring product stability.
• Working closely with the relevant department for validation of equipment,
processes, control procedures, critical systems.
• Review of market complaints for necessary actions.
• Ensuring a suitable product quality review system exists.
• Reviewing production records and investigating any suspected discrepancies.

sampling and analysis of starting materials to dispatching of finished products with

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
Product Development Department has been contributing to a very fast expansion of
product line in the market both at local and international market. We have more than 20
years work experience expertise for product development department. Their hard work
is the reflection of our belief in quality and innovation regularly.

Driven by our aspiration to become an international pharmaceutical company we have

built expertise in innovation and development. Our efforts are focused on the
development of cost-effective, high-quality drugs and on bringing down the cost of
medicine to agreeable levels for all.

BUSINESS OPERATIONS
We have been operating around 30 years in the market. We have registered around
300 brands for marketing local and global arena. Now we have been launched in the
market more than 200 products in the different dosage forms throughout the country
with the support of total 17 distribution offices. Our distribution channel covers every
corner of the country with skilled people. We are producing Tablet, Capsule, Syrup,
Suspension, Dry Powder for Suspension, Cream, Ointment, Sterile Eye/Ear Drops,
Powder in Sachet, Ampoule and Vial Injectable covering wide range of therapeutic
class. We have been doing some unique Probiotics and food supplement products
which are very beneficiary for health.

The local pharmaceutical market has attained a growth of around 15% during last few
years. Our company has attained a gradual growth around 20% in the local market
during this period. We have also a significant growth of 100% in the regulatory export
market compared to the previous year. We have been working to expand our business
operation in local market as well as regulatory export market and started exploring in
the African and Middle-East countries. To expand our business we have started work
for addition of few special molecules in the therapeutic class of Cardiovascular, Anti-
diabetes, Antibiotics, Anti-ulcerants, Anti-Viral, Anti Cancer etc. The total sales in the
local and international market are growing fast and consistently and we are
concentrating on this segment.
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

After a strong foot hold in the domestic market, the company is roaring to diversify in
export segment too with a visionary approach with wide range of therapeutic classes of
Drugs.

In the beginning we prominence primarily on semi regulated and moderately regulated

areas. We have already completed registration of a good number of products and have
been exporting to Cambodia, Myanmar, Bhutan Afghanistan and Guatemala
regularly with good volume in every segment of year. We are also in product registration
process in Philippines, Yemen, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Laos,
Kenya, Nigeria and Somalia. We are at the verge of exporting consignments to few
other destinations soon.

Along with Pharmaceutical products we are working to explore the global arena for
exporting our veterinary, herbal and nutritional supplement products to different
countries even to the moderate regulatory markets.

We strongly believe our international business will expand positively in many countries
within very short time.

FUTURE PLAN
Kemiko Pharmaceuticals Limited has been moving forward with optimism to fulfill its
target. Our future strategy will be to continue and to concentrate on retaining the already
acquired market and expanding the domestic & foreign market share through exploring

As a part of our business development, we have the following considerations:

● To launch at least 15 new products in a year (At least one new product will be the
1st time in Bangladesh)

● To Introduce more process machineries to increase the plant capacity to 450 crore
BDT per year instead of present capacity of BDT. 350 crore.

● We are in process to introduce separate process area for Cephalosporin, Injection

items beside of our plant.

● We will enrich our R&D department so that we can take the benefits of product
development in a cost effective way.

● We will strengthen our international marketing department to explore new markets

worldwide.

● We are in the process of a master plan to set new plant, business diversification etc
to face the challenges of upcoming years.
