Feminism aims for social, economic, and political equality between all genders. It is not about hating men or believing women are superior. Feminism has occurred in waves, with the first wave focusing on women's suffrage in the late 19th century, the second wave in the 1970s aiming for women's liberation, the third wave in the 1990s reacting to a perceived backlash, and the fourth wave associated with digital activism. Women still face denial of human rights and high rates of violence globally, showing the ongoing need for feminism.
