E.g. the Harry potter films were made from the books.

The pursuit of happiness is based on a true story.

Serenity was based on a T.V. series.

The creator then begins recruiting the crew to help him plan the film:

Director- the director reads the script and then makes it reality. Stephen Spielberg is a well known director

Writer- Defines & clarifies the ideas including the plot and characters. Edgar Wright wrote the screenplay for Scott pilgrim

Producer- The producer takes the original concept and then works onto that. Jerry Bruckheimer produced the CSI series

They then begin to write and plan out the initial ideas and create the dossiers for them.

The treatment is a description of the story/ plot and a list of the main characters

The pitch is the information and representation needed to sell the films idea

The script is essential for any film or TV show e.g. Robert Holmes is noted to be the best Dr who script writer.

The producer then seeks out a production company for funding, but many of them are already busy

The producer could offer the production company the future sales and broadcast rights in return for funding Ask a private investor to see if they could support and fund your film.

The producer could apply at a public funding body and ask for a development grant

Script development: The writer and the producer, create a synopsis witch is basically a brief note explaining the films key points e.g. the creators of the franchise Alien basically announced in theyre pitch jaws in space.

The writer creates a step outline for planning theyre script. They then proceed to write the scripts first draft

Once the writer and the producer are happy with the draft they send it to the financiers.

Once everyone is happy with the script it becomes the final draft.

The final stage is the creation of a sales treatment

Packaging: The produce and director package the script into a commercial composition

To make the film more commercial directors use well known actors like Owen Wilson or Will Smith

They must now estimate how much it will cost to fund the film like it totalled over 230 million to make Avatar.

Private individuals, production companies or public bodies invest in the film; the projects lawyer creates a contract with the investors. The producer can raise money by selling the rights to the film Often banks would specialise with film funding, they invers in commercially funding the film

Most investors request a completion bond (insurance)

Once funding and Insurance has been given the all clear and is ready for production.

Pre production: Once all of the staff has been hired the pre production begins

The crew then begins casting.

The storyboard is drawn up.

The special effects are planned out with high detail.

And the production designer creates a mock up model of every scene.

The key triangle is then formed for the first ad

The shoot: The crew begin shooting the film

The camera crew begins shooting the footage which the editor alters.

Once lighting, hair and make up are set the shooting can begin.

It is up to the actors to put on a convincing show.

The physical special effects are shot in real time construction using explosives and stunt men.

The film is run with extreme precision and order

Post production: The editor then begins editing the footage. By deleting any mistakes

This then goes to the audio department where they include sound effects and a soundtrack

The film then goes to the compositors this where the digital effects are added and typography is created.

The hue and colouring are then edited

The sound is then mixed and dubbed accordingly

The film is now finished and ready for viewing.
