WITITI
The wititi dance of the Colca Valley is a
traditional folk dance related to the beginning

of adulthood. It takes the form of a love
courtship ritual and is usually performed by
young people during religious festivities held
during the rainy season. Couples of male and
female dancers line up in rows and perform
various steps to the music. The dancers wear
finely embroidered costumes with colorful
natural motifs and wear characteristic hats.
For their part, the dancers wear two
overlapping women's skirts, a military shirt, a
shawl and hats with accessories. The
performance of the wititi coincides with the
beginning of the agricultural production cycle
and symbolizes the renewal of nature and
society.

INTRODUCTION
Arequipa has it all. Yes, absolutely
everything you can imagine, you can find it
in the territory of the 'White City'. History,
adventure, fabulous landscapes, wildlife,
gastronomy, art and much more is hidden in
the Villa de Nuestra Señora de la Asunta de
Arequipa -the name with which it was
founded, in 1540-, which is firmly guarded
by its most imposing natural attraction: the
Misti volcano.

TYPICAL DISHES
STUFFED ROCOTO
Stuffed rocoto is Arequipa's signature
dish. It is served as an appetizer as well
as a main dish. As its name suggests, it is
made from rocoto, a spicy fruit shaped
like an apple. The rocoto is stuffed with
ground meat, cheese, olives, stews and
all cooked in the oven. In Arequipa this
dish is usually accompanied by potato
NATIONAL RESERVE OF pie. There is a story that attributes the
SALINAS AND AGUADA creation of this dish to the priest Manuel
BLANCA Mesías who created this spicy dish to
satisfy the devil's palate and thus

recover his daughter.
AROUND AREQUIPA IS THE NATIONAL RESERVE OF
SALINAS AND AGUADA BLANCA. IT IS HOME TO THE
MAJESTIC AREQUIPA VOLCANOES MENTIONED ABOVE,
TYPICAL ANIMALS OF THE ANDEAN HIGHLANDS SUCH
AS THE LLAMA, ALPACA, VICUÑA AND GUANACO, AND
LARGE LAGOONS INHABITED BY BIRDS SUCH AS
FLAMINGOS.
IN ADDITION, IN THIS PLACE ARE THE SUMBAY
CAVES, WHERE MORE THAN 500 ROCK ART
PAINTINGS ARE PRESERVED WITH AN ANTIQUITY
OF BETWEEN 6,000 AND 8,000 YEARS. AMONG

OBSERVE HERE ARE THE TYPICAL CAMELIDS OF
THIS ANDEAN REGION AT REST.
