CHAPTER I
problem statement

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder with

multidimensional involvement, characterized by decreased social interaction with
deficiencies in communication through verbal and nonverbal language and inflexibility
in behavior by presenting repetitive behaviors and restricted interests. Its
etiopathogenesis and related risk factors are increasingly being better studied. This is a
frequent clinical entity. Approximately 1 in 160 children have some degree of autism
globally. However, it is rarely diagnosed, being identified until the appearance of its
comorbidity with other psychiatric disorders such as anxiety or depression. Currently,
there is no specific treatment for the nuclear symptoms of autism, however, there are
different therapeutic and pharmacological options that improve the quality of life of its
carriers.

Introduction

Autism spectrum disorder is a condition related to brain development that impacts how
a person perceives and socializes with others, causing problems in social interaction and
communication. The disorder also includes limited and repetitive patterns of behavior.
While there is no cure for autism spectrum disorder, intensive, early treatment can make
a big difference in the lives of many children.
Some children with autism spectrum disorder have difficulty learning, and some have
signs of lower than normal intelligence. Other children with the disorder have normal to
high intelligence
Art therapy is a psychotherapy technique that helps people with or without disabilities
in the educational field to improve their physical, emotional and cognitive well-being,
better developing their attention, learning style and academic performance in their social
environment. In the case of children with autism, this technique will improve their
learning and make them have a more interactive and better acceptance teaching
according to the degree of autism.
(clinic, 2019)
Symptoms
Some children show signs of autism spectrum disorder in early infancy, such as reduced
eye contact, lack of response to their name or indifference to caregivers. Other children
may develop normally for the first few months or years of life, but then suddenly
become withdrawn or aggressive or lose language skills they've already acquired. Signs
usually are seen by age 2 years.
Some children with autism spectrum disorder have difficulty learning, and some have
signs of lower than normal intelligence. Other children with the disorder have normal to
high intelligence
Below are some common signs shown by people who have autism spectrum disorder.

Patterns of behavior

 Performs repetitive movements, such as rocking, spinning or hand flapping

 Performs activities that could cause self-harm, such as biting or head-
banging
 Has specific food preferences, such as eating only a few foods, or refusing
foods with a certain texture.etc

Causes

Autism spectrum disorder has no single known cause. Given the complexity of
the disorder, and the fact that symptoms and severity vary, there are probably
many causes. Both genetics and environment may play a role.

General objective

The general objective is that they have quality of life and can achieve the greatest
possible autonomy. These interventions are often non-pharmacological and are designed
to promote the acquisition of developmental skills in a number of domains, such as
social communication, language, cognition, and adaptive functioning.

ESPECIFIC objetive

• Autism Awareness in Society and the medical

community's approach to Autism

• Training in the early signs of Autism to Physicians
