EMERGENCY LEAK AT MAPLETON BOOSTER STATION AFFECTING PUMPING

The City of Tshwane has been notified by Rand Water about an emergency repair work on the
utility’s B8 pipeline leak at the Mapleton Booster Station. The incident has resulted in a reduction
to Mapleton’s pumping to 66%.

According to the utility, the isolation and scouring started yesterday, August 20 2023, at around
16h00, and the repairs are still underway.

Both Rand Water’s Vlakfontein and Bronberge reservoirs, which supply water to Tshwane, are in
a state of depletion.

The below listed areas, which are supplied by the above-mentioned reservoirs, are
affected:

• Corobrick Plant: Grootfontein 394-JR, Mooikloof Manor Ext 2, Rietfontein 375-JR,

Rietfontein Ridge Ext 11, Rietvallei 377-JR, Zwavelpoort 373-JR, The Hills (all extensions)
and Tiegerpoort 371-JR

• Carina Street Reservoir: Alphenpark, Erasmusrand, Garsfontein 374-JR, Groenkloof 358-

JR, Monumentpark (all extensions), Sterrewag, Waterkloof (all extensions), Waterkloof
Heights (all extensions), Waterkloof Park and Waterkloof Ridge (all extensions)

• Garsfontein Reservoir which feeds the following reservoirs:

Some areas in Tshwane are therefore likely to experience low water pressure to no supply during
the repairs. The system may take up to two weeks to recover after commissioning.

Meanwhile, Rand Water has informed the City of Tshwane that the planned maintenance work,
which was scheduled for 25 August 2023, has been canceled. The said maintenance was meant
to carry out a switchgear repair work at the Mapleton Booster Pumping Station.

The city apologises profusely for the emergency interruption that is underway, as well as the
cancelation of the maintenance work referred to above.
