Bawang Putih and Bawang Merah

Once upon a time in a village, lived a happy family. That family had a children named Bawang Putih.
Her mother passed away due to her disease and now, Bawang Putih lived with her father only.

In that village also, lived a widow with her daughter named Bawang Merah. They often visited
Bawang Putih to deliver some food or just to talk. In short, Bawang Merah’s mother married with
Bawang Putih’s father. Since that time, Bawang Putih no longer felt lonely because she getting a new
mother and sister. However, over time its true nature appears. They often scolded Bawang Putih and
gave her many hard house chores when their father was trading.

One day, Bawang Putih’s father passed away, left Bawang Putih with Bawang Merah and her mother.
Day by day, Bawang Putih tortured by them. But, Bawang Putih accepted her life steadfastly.

One day, Bawang Putih washed Bawang Merah and her mother’s clothes in a river. Unfortunately,
there was one clothes driting. So, Bawang Putih followed the river until she arrived at a
grandmother’s house. That grandmother found Bawang Putih’s drifting clothes and promised that
she would give back the clothes if Bawang Putih helps her clean her house. Bawang Putih accepted it
and clean her house diligently. In short, Bawang Putih received her drifting clothes. Bawang Putih
also asked to choose a whether she wanted a large or small pumpkin. She then chose the small one
and bring it home.

When she got home, Bawang Putih told everything to Bawang Merah and her mother. They then
opened the pumpkin. They shocked when they find a lot of gold within it. But Bawang Merah and
her mother scolded Bawang Putih again for not choosing the big pumpkin. They told that the big
pumpkin should contain more gold than the small ones.

Bawang putih Feeling jealous, Bawang Merah and her mother decided to follow what Bawang Putih
had done. They wash their clothes at a river and let one of their clothes drift away. They followed
the river and found the grandmother’s house. Same as before, the grandmother asked them to clean
her house. They accept it, but they don’t do it wholeheartedly. Finally the grandmother gave back
their drifting clothes and asked them to choose one of her pumpkins. Of course they chose the big
ones. When they got home, they opened the pumpkin immediately. But it’s not gold, it’s some
snakes that chased them. They then ran, left their house and Bawang Putih’s village.
