Calculating minimum shank length

L = Length of fastener shank
KL = Clamping length, Thickness of material to be fixed
TB = Pilot hole depth in substrate
TS = Minimum setting depth in substrate

z The SPIKE® twister must be inserted to no less than the minimum

setting depth in concrete and solid masonry. The minimum setting
depth can be found in the table below.
z Pilot hole depth (TB) in concrete and solid masonry must be at
least 10 mm greater than the setting depth (TS) of the SPIKE® twister.

z Calculating minimum shank length (Lmin.)

Lmin. = KL + TS

z Calculating effective drilling depth (TB)

TB = L - KL + min. 10 mm

z Calculating drill bit working length

Minimum drill bit working length = KL + TB or spike® length + 10 mm

Calculation of the recommended safe working load

Basically fastenings are designed using recommended safe working loads relating to the product (Frec.). The
characteristic fracture load F5% (5% Fractil value) provides the basis for the loads recommended (Frec.).

F5% ≥ 95% of all fracture loads (90% confidence)

F5%
Frec. =
ν
ν = Safety factor- depending on national regulations and approvals

If nothing else known SFS intec recommends:

ν = 2,5 for roofing
ν = 3,0 for cladding
ν = 5,0 for over head applications
