Workout/explain the following showing all the necessary steps.

1. The measurements of two lengths give 23.3992cm and 1.601cm. Find their sum
and difference. What is the product of these numbers?
2. How much liters of liquid can a 200cm3 object displace when completely

immersed in it?
3. A diabetes patient takes 40ml of insulin per day. What is this volume in

mm3?
4. A chemist told a patient to take 20mg of tablet of medicine three times

per day. How much total kg will these be per week?


5. What is the difference between physical bodies and physical quantities?

6. List SI and non SI units of mass, length and time.

7. Find the resultant of vectors, 𝐴 = 3 𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡 and 𝐵 = 4 𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡 when the angle in
between them is a) 00. b) 1800, c) 900 and d) 600.
8. A force of 180N makes 370 to the x – axis. Find its components in xy

plane.
9. Two forces of 80N and 100N acting at an angle of 600 with each other.

What single pull would replace the given forces?


10. The x and y components of two vectors A and B are Ax= 3, Ay= 4, and

Bx= 6, By= 8, respectively. What is the magnitude of the sum of these


two vectors?

Find the final velocity.
14. An object that weighs 50N on the earth is transported to the moon. There its
weight is 8.3N. What is the acceleration of gravity at the surface of the moon?
15. What is the force of gravitational attraction between two uniform spheres, each
having a mass of 8 𝑘𝑔 and a diameter of 0.4 m, when they just touch? (𝐺 =
6.67 × 10−11 𝑁𝑚2 /𝑘𝑔2 )
16. To masses of 2kg and 8kg are connected by a massless string. They are
supported on a frictionless horizontal surface. A force of 40N is applied to the
8kg mass, as shown. Calculate the tension in the string between the two masses.

17. A constant push of 100N, applied at an angle of 370 to a 20kg block which
rests on a horizontal surface, gives the block a velocity of 5m/s in 4 seconds.
Find
i) the normal force.
ii) the acceleration.

iv) the coefficient of friction. (take g = 10m/s2, sin370= 0.6 and
cos370=0.8)

18. Determine the force that a 80kg object exerts on the floor of an elevator when

i) Ascends with constant velocity 2m/s.
ii) Ascends with constant acceleration of 2m/s2.
iii) Descends with constant acceleration of 2m/s2.

19. A small object of mass m is suspended from a string of length L. The object
revolves with constant speed v in a horizontal circle of radius r. find an
expression for v.
20. In the figure below, the mass of body A is 10kg and of body B is 15kg. A
continuous cord attached to a fixed surface passes over fixed pulley P 1 and under
moveable pulley P2. Find the tension T1 and T2, and the acceleration of each body.
Neglect friction and the weights of the pulleys and cords.

21. It is found that a force of 240N parallel to plane was required to move a 40kg
mass with constant velocity up an inclined plane of 300. Find the coefficient of
sliding friction (take: g = 10m/s2).
22. A 4kg block is pulled up an inclined plane a distance of 2m by a horizontal force
of 80N. The coefficient of sliding friction is 0.2 and the angle of inclination is 53 0.
Find
i) The work done by the 80N force.
ii) The work done by the gravitational force.
iii) The work done by the frictional force.
iv) The total work done by all the forces. (take: g = 10m/s2)

23. A block of mass 5kg, sliding on top of a table with initial velocity 2m/s,
comes to rest in a distance of 4m. Find the average friction force that
decelerated its motion.

24. A 2-kg block on a level surface is held against a spring compressed by


10cm. the force constant of the spring is 800N/m and the coefficient of sliding
friction between the block and the surface is 0.2. If the block is released, how
far will it travel before coming to rest? (Refer See figure below, Where F S is a

27.A net force of 40N east is applied on a 10-kg mass for 2 seconds to change its

28. A bullet of mass 200gm strikes a target of mass 1,100gm. If the bullet
and target move together immediately after impact with a velocity of 2m/s.
calculate the velocity of the bullet before impact.
