CONCEPT NOTE

Parts of a Paragraph:
1. Topic sentence – this sentence tells the reader the main idea, or what the paragraph
will be about. It is usually the first sentence of the paragraph.

2. Supporting sentences or supporting details – include the information the reader


needs to know in order to understand the topic. Support the topic sentence.

3. Concluding sentence – is the last sentence in the paragraph. It repeats the topic
sentence in different words refers to the topic sentence and sump up the main
points or idea of the paragraph.

Example:
In the Farm
My vacation in the farm is perfect. The whole family stayed there for one
month. We helped in harvesting fruits. We also helped our mother in cooking our
food. I learned many things about cooking.

Topic sentence: My vacation in the farm is perfect.


Supporting sentences: 1. The whole family stayed there for one month.
2. We helped in harvesting fruits.
3. We also helped our mother in cooking our food.
Concluding sentence: I learned many things about cooking.

A. Bamboos are the giants of the grass family. Some bamboos can grow as big as
trees. They can grow in the lowlands or in rolling hills. There are different kinds of
bamboos.
