components are used. The installation of components made by other
manufacturers can lead to safety defects and insufficient stability.

The present document and the instructions for assembly and use
of Allround Scaffolding must be available to the qualified person
supervising the scaffolding construction work and to the employees
involved at the start of such work. During assembly, alteration and
dismantling, as well as during use of the scaffolding, the national legal
regulations concerning scaffolding structures and occupational safety
during erection and use of such scaffolding must be complied with.

Inspection and documentation

The scaffolding must, after completion of the assembly work and

before being put into service, be checked by a person qualified to
do so to ensure that it has been correctly assembled and is safe to
use. The inspection must be documented. After completion of the
scaffolding, it is useful to indicate that inspection has been passed
by a clearly discernible identification on the scaffolding itself for the
duration of its use.

The user must check that the scaffolding structure is suitable and safe
to use for its respective application. In particular, it must be checked
whether the scaffolding structure complies with the requirements for
dimensioning and construction planning. If defects are found during
this check, the scaffolding must not be used in those areas where
there are defects until these have been eliminated by the scaffolding
erector. Subsequent alterations to the scaffolding are deemed as
assembly, alteration or dismantling and may only be performed by
technically trained employees. The alterations must be inspected and
approved by the scaffolding erector.

The provisions of the respective work safety regulations must be

complied with.

2. BASIC COMPONENTS
2.1 Aluminium TwixBeam

The aluminium TwixBeam (see Figure 1) is made from aluminium and is sists of two U-sections which combine to form a single beam unit
available in the lengths 0.80 m, 1.30 m, 1.70 m, 2.10 m, 2.60 m, 3.10 m, thanks to spacers and bolts, nuts and washers. The overall beam has
3.60 m, 4.60 m, 5.60 m and 6.60 m. It is perforated over its full length a height H = 200 mm and width B = 160 mm. Structural details for the

possible to pass through Allround standards (Ø 48.3 mm) and mount

2.3 Swivelling TwixBeam spindle 60

The swivelling TwixBeam spindle 60 can be used as a head jack or a base plate. The height is
adjusted using the spindle nut. The swivelling function also makes it possible to adapt to different
contours, e.g. at inclined slabs.

place according to the grid dimensions.

The hole distances of 16 mm and 56 mm to the axis permit the changeover from the beam’s
metric hole configuration (hole spacing e = 100 mm) to the “Layher system dimensions”.
Three typical examples of this are presented (see below). Depending on the direction in which
the swivelling TwixBeam spindle 60 is installed, the bays, for example, can be constructed with

2.4 TwixBeam spindle strut Struts give the basic system extra rigidity, in particular in lattice
structures. The strut is fixed between the individual TwixBeams using
a pin dia. 20 x 113 mm (Ref. No. 2646.281) and securing pin dia. 4 mm
(Ref. No. 5905.002) at each. The TwixBeam spindle strut is manufac-
tured in three variants with different adjustment ranges. One, two or
three rosettes depending on the variant due to the different lengths.

Depending on the structural requirements, it is also possible to brace
the structure in one section using Allround ledgers and Allround
diagonal braces.

The adaptation of the angle of inclination of, for example, bracket

structures or the adjustment of the height when supports are used
are performed using the spindle nut, which is able to transmit tensile
and compressive forces.

The TwixBeam beam connector (see Figure 18) permits a bending-

3. EXAMPLE APPLICATIONS
The aluminium TwixBeam is suitable for a wide range of applications, in particular due to its compatibility with Allround scaffolding, Shoring TG
60 and the FlexBeam. The following shows a few examples of its possible uses. Possible uses are subdivided into three categories:

• Applications in scaffolding construction

• Applications in industry
• Applications in shoring construction

3.1 Applications in scaffolding construction

Anchoring, e.g. of scaffolding Stairtower suspension

Instead of the logistically more complex possibility of using ballast Due to the many different beam lengths that are available and the
weights, scaffolding structures can be anchored using TwixBeams possibility of constructing a continuous beam, it is possible to bridge
and threaded rods. This is where the possibility of dismantling the practically any opening. Thanks to the TwixBeam’s high load-bearing
TwixBeam comes into play. The TwixBeam can be positioned via one capacity and the ability to mount the rosettes of Allround scaffold-

tommost ledger level. stairtowers.

Suspended scaffolding structures

The fact that it is possible to pass the standard through the TwixBeam
and mount the rosette on the beam means that suspended scaffolding
structures can also be constructed.

The size of the opening in the TwixBeam is identical to the cross-sectional width of the FlexBeam. In addition, both the FlexBeam and the TwixBeam
have the same 100 x 100 mm hole pattern. This makes it possible to combine the two beam variants to create a hybrid beam consisting of both
FlexBeam and TwixBeam.

It is possible to connect the two beam systems both horizontally and vertically.

rical specifications.

To install the TwixBeam as the system main beam, start by mounting
a TwixBeam L = 1.70 m (Ref. No. 4041.170) with three pre-assembled
spacers centrally and longitudinally aligned with the top TG 60 Frame
on the head jacks of the shoring. Because the TwixBeam is 160 mm
wide, it is possible to use ordinary head jacks, cross head jacks or the
swivelling TwixBeam spindles 60 when doing this.

using pins dia. 20 x 113 mm (Ref. No. 2646.281).

The TwixBeam is levelled by adjusting the spindle extension. Once the

TwixBeam has been aligned, it is necessary to mount the insertion
beams in the area of the intermediate bays.

The insertion beam must be centrally aligned, i.e. it is nec-
essary to ensure that the distance on both sides is the same.

minium U-sections and are initially placed on the horizontally
mounted spacer at the end of the TwixBeam.

The construction of the ledger level on the topmost rosette
level ensures precise system dimensions, making it easy to
attach the pins.

The projecting arm must not lead to any danger of tipping! It
is absolutely essential to ensure adequate stabilisation of the

the main beam itself!
In addition, the structure of the main beam must be designed
