5.3 Electrical wiring
Active harmonic filters may only be installed, commissioned and serviced by certified electrician.
Connect the active harmonic filter according to the attached connection diagram. The labeling
is in the immediate vicinity of the connection terminals.

3 Wire 3 Phase

Note: For part numbers 349110, 349111, 349112, the conductor of the load current must be passed
through the converter two times (loop once) to achieve the correct current transformer rating. It is
essential (as with simple implementation) that the direction of energy flow in the conductor and the
direction of the arrow on the converter match.

5.3.1 EMC directive
Compliance with the EMC directive is only given if the active harmonic filter is connected directly to the
main power supply.
If the active harmonic filter is built into a system or combined with other products, the manufacturer of
the system / operator of the device is responsible for compliance with the EMC directive according to
the locally applicable standards.

5.3.2 Voltage supply

The voltage supply must match the information on the rating plate (see technical data).
The voltage supply must comply with the EN 50160 quality characteristics and the defined standard
voltages of IEC 60038!

Remarks for connection of CT (current transformer):

Routing of wires: The wires between the active harmonic filter and current transformers must be
twisted pair cables. A correct function is only possible if the wiring matches exact the diagram below. If
wires are interchanged, the harmonics will not be reduced but amplified. To avoid interchanging of wires
it is strongly recommended not to use any wire colour twice.
Wire cross section: The cross section of the wires has a significant influence on the quality of the
control. Is the cross section to small in relation to the length of the wire, the resulting measurement
within the active harmonic filter will be too small to achieve a good control quality and good reduction of
harmonics.
2×𝑑×𝑣×𝐼²×𝜌
𝐴=
𝑆

The following values needed to be known:

- S = Power of the current transformer (30 A - 80 A typical 1.5 VA, ≥ 100 A typical 2.5 VA )
- d = Distance (length of cableway) between active harmonic filter and current transformer
- v = Twisting factor (typical 1,5)
- I = secondary current of the current transformer ( typical 5 A)
𝑂ℎ𝑚∗𝑚𝑚²
- ρ = Rho = specific resistance of copper ( 0,01786 )
𝑚
2×2 𝑚×1,5×52 ×0,01786 𝑂ℎ𝑚×𝑚
- Example: 𝐴 = = 1,07 𝑚𝑚²
2,5 𝑉𝐴 ×𝑚𝑚²

Wiring type: At 3W3P (installation of two current transformers) the neutral must not be connected to
the active harmonic filter. It is mandatory that the physical installation must match the adjusted method
in the software of the active harmonic filter. If this is not observed, the reduction of harmonics is not
optimal.

5.3.5 Active harmonic filter in parallel wiring
Z-D-15/35/55E-.. may be connected in parallel without limitation to achieve higher power ratings. It is
necessary to adjust the related parameters in the software and do adopt the wiring of the current
transformers.
Phase A (L1) is used for reference for the other phases.
Example Case 1:
Parallel wiring of two Z-D-15/35/55E-..:

Hint: Like the polarity of S1 and S2, the polarity of P1 and P2 is very important for the correct function.
P1 must face to mains supply and P2 (on opposite side of current transformer) must face to the load.

5.3.6 Selection of CT (current transformers)
Selection of current transformers depends on the load current of the application. Applicable are current
transformers in the range of 30:5 to 250:5. The transfer ratio must be adjusted in the correlated
parameter of the software. For optimal performance, the nominal current of the current transformer must
not be much higher than the load current of the application (e.g. load current 95A => current transformer
100A)
Following CT´s are provided for corresponding nominal current

5.3.7 Wiring when using current transformers with high ratio

For part numbers 349110, 349111 and 349112 the conductor of the load current must be passed through
the converter two times (loop once) to achieve the correct current transformer rating. It is essential (as
with simple implementation) that the direction of energy flow in the conductor and the direction of the
arrow on the converter match. A 100A bushing current transformer is used as an example for part
number 349112, here the conductor must be passed through twice instead of once. See capture 5.3.
Such an adaptation is not possible with converters without a feed through.
