Create a gamification rule

Lab 2.0 10–15 minutes

Lab objectives
You will achieve the following objectives:
• View the gamification rules list
• Use Guided Setup to create a gamification rule
• Know three ways to create a gamification rule
• Gain familiarity of the gamification rule form fields

Scope: This lab requires you to work within the Global scope.

Scenario
The Grand Dolphin Resorts community events staff want to have more community gatherings on
location. They want to have more ideas for events, sot hey decide to award points to event
creators. A new gamification rule for creating an event is needed.
Section 1 | Create a gamification rule for creating an event
1.0 Required user

1. Log in to your student lab instance as admin.

2. Impersonate Gracie Ehn (gracie.ehn).

Or, log into your instance using Gracie’s credentials: gracie.ehn and password Gdresorts.

1.1 View gamification rules

Use the Community Guided Setup to view the global announcements list.

1. In the application navigator, enter guided.

2. Go to Community > Administrator > Guided Setup, then select Get Started.

3. In the Gamification section, select the Create a Rule task, then select Configure.

4. The Gamification Rules list is displayed.

There are two other ways to create a gamification rule. You can use the Rules module, which is
found by going to Community > Gamification > Rules.

The second way is to go to the Gamification Rules [sn_gamification_rule_list] table.

1.2 Create a new gamification rule

1. In the Gamification Rules list, select New.

2. In the Content Types list, select New.

3. Complete the new Gamification Rule form:

a. Rule Name: Event posted in a forum


b. Gamification Module: Community

c. Activity Type: Event posted in a forum

d. Profile Receiving Points: Event Author

e. Exclude Self-Award: <<unchecked>>

f. Gamification Track: Community Participation

g. Points: 500

h. Points for Areas of Expertise: Forum, Topic

4. Select Submit.

Verify Actions: Find the gamification rule you just created in the Gamification Rules
list.
5. Select the help icon > Back to Guided Setup.

6. Select Mark as Complete for the Create a Rule task.

Lab Verification

Create an event and get awarded points


1. Impersonate Danny Dales.

2. In a new browser window, go to <<your-instance-url>>.com/gdr.

3. In the Post Content panel, select Event.

4. Complete the Create Event form:

a. Event title: Baby sea turtle viewing

b. Forum: Adventures

c. Topic(s): Hikes

d. Set guest limit: <<checked>>

e. Total allowed: 20

f. Name of location: Turtle beach


g. Address: 100 Turtle Beach Cir

h. City: Grand Dolphin Island

i. State: <<leave blank>>

j. Zip/Postal Code: 10010

k. Country: Grand Islands

l. Date and time:

i. Start date: <<30 days from today at 8:00 AM>>

ii. End date: <<30 days from today at 9:30 am>>

m. Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes (auto-populated)

n. Description: Come watch sea turtles hatch and race to the ocean! Limited to 20
guests.

5. Select Publish.

The event is displayed, and it is also shown in the Upcoming Events panel.

View your gamification activity for creating the event.


1. On your event, select your profile picture.

2. On your Community Profile, select the Activity tab.

Danny has advanced to Level 2 in Hikes and Adventures, achieved reputation as an Enthusiast,
and has been awarded 500 points for forum expertise and topic expertise. These points are
assigned per category — not combined.
