Create a new forum

Lab 1.0 15–20 minutes

Lab objectives
You will achieve the following objectives:
• Create a new basic forum

Scope: This lab requires you to work within the Global scope.

Scenario
The hotel wants to start a sustainability program involving their community members’ ideas and
input. Your task is to create the forum and invite community members that are top contributors.
It will be a sub-forum of Sustainability.

Requirements

1. The forum name is Lean and Green. No additional topics are needed for the forum.

2. Forum access will be managed by membership. Every member of the forum will have the
same permissions and can create and update all content types.
Section 1 | Create the Lean and Green forum
1.0 Required user

1. Log in to your student lab instance as admin.

2. Impersonate Gracie Ehn (gracie.ehn).

Or, log into your instance using Gracie’s credentials: gracie.ehn and password Gdresorts.

1.1 Create a forum

The forum permissions will be copied from an existing forum. A Topic is not needed at this time.

1. In the application navigator, enter guided.

2. Go to Community > Administrator > Guided Setup, then select Get Started.

3. In the Forum Setup section, select the Create a Forum task, then select Configure.

4. Complete the New Forum form:

a. Name: Lean and Green

b. Description: Sustainable hotel programs

c. Image: <<Click to add…, then select the LeanAndGreen.svg you downloaded for
this lab>>>

d. Order: 100

e. Parent: Sustainability

f. Enable Membership for this forum: <<checked>>

g. Approval Workflow for Membership: Forum Membership Approval


h. Knowledge Base used for harvesting: Grand Dolphin Resorts

5. Right-click on header and select Save.

Verify Actions: After saving, did you receive this notification?

6. In the Related Links tabs, select Forum Permissions.

Verify Actions: Two Forum Users should have been created and visible.

7. Select the help icon > Back to Guided Setup.


8. Select Mark as Complete for the Create a Forum task.

1.2 Configure content types for a forum

The content type to be allowed in a forum needs to be defined. For membership forums, this
procedure is done manually.

1. In the Configure Content Types for a Forum task, select Configure.

2. In the Content Types list, select New.

3. Complete the new Content Type form:

a. Content Type: Question

b. Forum: Lean and Green

c. Active: <<checked>>

d. Approval Workflow: Community — Content Approval

4. Select Submit.

Verify Actions: After submitting, did you receive this notification?


5. Select the help icon > Back to Guided Setup.

6. Select Mark as Complete for the Configure Content Types for a Forum task.

Lab Verification

Verify the forum has been created correctly


We can go to the forums list and verify the forum configuration.

1. Go to Community > Administration > Forums.

2. Find and open Lean and Green in the Name column.

3. Select the Content types related list to show the Question and Answer content types.
You can also verify that your forum exists in the Grand Dolphin Resorts community portal.

4. In a new browser window, go to <<your-instance-url>>.com/gdr.

5. Select the + icon next to Browse Forums.

6. You should see 1 Sub Forum underneath Sustainability. Click 1 Sub Forum.

7. Confirm you see the Lean and Green subforum.
