The video song “All I Want” is written and directed by Kodoline. It is an famous Irish band
though it was previously known as “21 Demands”, they adapted the name Kodoline in 2012. In
this video song we can see various types of communication is taking place to communicate.
This video is showing a process of communication.
In first few seconds of this video we can see a woman got scared of a man because of his face, as
his face was damaged, the woman here is showing her emotion which is called affect display in
terms of non-verbal communication. And in the 00:33 min of the video a man is disgusted by the
main character in the video and he is also emphasizing with illustrating bodily movement to
mock him. And in the 00:45 min of the video we can also see that everyone is looking at him
weirdly because they have a perception that he is monster and may harm them, this perception
may came from the movies or their past life experience or any other psychological factors
therefore nobody is treating him right, other colleagues selected the perception by looking at his
face only so they are stereotyping him as monster because may be from movies they got halo
effect and got this perception. At 1:52 min we can also see a bonding between the dog and the
man ,here we can see the man is playing with the dog and the dog is listening to his words, so it
is a form of non-verbal communication. And in this video, we can see the man always talks to
himself, which is intrapersonal communication, as no one in the group talks with him so he
cannot mass or communicate in group. And in the 3:50 min of the video we can see the man is
fighting with the bad people who try to harass the woman and beat them up and the woman got
impressed, so from this section of this video we can tell non-verbal communication took place as
they fought which is called kinetics and when the woman got impressed her perception for the
man got changed and got contrast effect because of the current situation he showed to the
woman. And in the 4:20 min of the video we can finally see interpersonal communication and
verbal communication is taking place as the woman and man is walking and talking. And then
we can see the self-esteem of the man got boosted as finally he can talk and share his thoughts
with the other person.
So overall in this video song we have seen mostly non-verbal communication took place and we
have seen different types of non-verbal communication, as everyone was stereotyping the man
because of his looks , but the man at least tried to communicate with hand movement and face
expression which is called affect display and kinetics. However from this video we can see how
much verbal communication is important for a human to satisfy their needs.
