MAC Leadership Meeting

Attendees: Kathy Lee, Carlos Rinaldi, Sindia Rivera, Gina Gatto, Bryan Deschamps,
Azeem Farinmade, Sheena Reeves, Natalie Krauser, La Ruth McAffee, Audie Key
Thompson, Symour Alexander, Jude Phillip, Manuela Ayee, Karen Romero

William Grimes and MAC Eminent Engineers Awardees:

William Grimes Award: It recognizes a chemical engineer outstanding achievements in the


chemical engineer profession and as a distinguished role model for minorities.

MAC Eminent Engineers Award: Highest award that recognizes outstanding achievements
from a professional in a traditional chemical engineering position or from a chemical engineer
making significant contributions in a non-traditional profession.

Celebrating MAC journeys during these 30 years

2021 ( Scholarships, Conference Expenses, Awards, 30 th Celebration)

Funding Sources for Mac:

Dues: Expected to be  15K annually but depends on member contributions


Henry T Brown endowment
 $352K since inception
 Initial goal of $ 300K achieved (15 student scholarship of $1K each in perpetuity)
 New goal for endowment can increase scholarship numbers and do more for
MAC
 Secondary goal is to achieve $500K
 Need new committee members and co chairs

Donor

 Corporate- To be cultivated
 Foundation contribution (Annual Fund Grants program, general unrestricted
but requires proposal and approval).

4. AIChE Fellow Nominations- Manuela ( https://www.aiche.org/fellow-nomination-faqs)

 AIChE Fellows Council desire to diversify roster or Fellows


 Request for nomination of women, other minorities (African American, LatinX,
Native American) LGBTQ+
 Identify candidates with qualities desired in a Fellow
 There must be a Fellow and senior members that must nominate possible
candidates.
 Rinaldi suggested that have someone from the fellows council do a session for
MAC to demystify the fellow nomination process.
 He also suggested that Thomas Epps and Lola Eniola Adefeso would be good
candidates.
 Robert Ofoli (current past chair)could help Fellow nomination process.
 McAffee suggested get a list of MAC members that are already Fellows

5. MAC/YP Proposal- Kathy Lee

Name of the Project: Building a MAC/YP Network: Build a network by researching and
compiling an email and social media contact list, in a virtual community with support
activities and F2F programming in the Spring 2023 meeting space. MAC pipeline will
increase in volunteer participation in the short and long term, strengthen previous
connections to new and recent graduates, it will aide to expand AIChE reach to
nonmembers.

Sindia Rivera: LatinXChE Kickoff Meeting May 13, 2022: Kickoff Event to discuss the importance
of chemical engineering communities and how they can better support our careers. This event
is open to students, faculty and industry

Guest Speaker: Lydia Contreras/University of Texas at Austin
