GUIDED OBSERVATION CHART

The Guided Observation Chart is a tool that a teacher-observer can use while observing a
demonstration teaching to document how a new approach or skill is used. The learning facilitator formulates
two to three questions that will guide the teacher-observer in visualizing and understanding an approach or
skill while observing a class. Two questions are provided below as examples.
The learning facilitator provides the teacher-observer with a copy of the chart during the preservation
conference and reminds him or her how to use it. The teacher-observer records his or her answers to the
questions of the learning facilitators in the first section of the chart. He or she is encouraged to think of
questions for clarification about the approach or strategy observed. He or she writes his or her own questions
in the second section of the chart.

TEACHING-LEARNING SCAN

The Teaching-Learning Scan is a simple tool that a learning facilitator can use to capture the teaching- learning
activities observed in a sequential order. The first column is allotted for the recording of the activities the teacher did, the
questions the teacher said, the students’ answers to the questions, and the questions the students asked, which are all
related to the focus of the observation. The second column is for the comments, suggestions, or recommendations of the
learning facilitator.
