Tissue Box Book Report Template

Designed for The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, this project may be adapted for other books. The
box itself can become the cupboard in Indian in the Cupboard, a Phantom Toll Booth… and so on.

For Grade 3, I only used the Beginning, Middle, and Ending templates and the picture frame. But
depending on your grade and class, you may want to add the other story elements included.

Common Core Standards met: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.7, .10.

Here is how the project is completed:

1. Have students measure and draw cutting lines for the doors of the wardrobe on the bottom of
the tissue box. Give careful instructions on how to mark and draw the lines across, 4 cm. from
the top end of their box, and 16 cm. below that. Then they need to measure the halfway mark
about 6 cm. from the left side (this may vary slightly if your tissue boxes are different!). After
marking with pencil, students can cut along the lines to make their doors open. Be sure they
cut only on the lines and do not cut the doors off. The result should be like the partially-
completed project in the photo on the right.
2. Students can then paint their “wardrobe” brown, or decorate the outside differently
according to the book you are adapting to; and let dry.
3. Discuss the beginning of the book and tell students to write one or two complete sentences
summarizing the first couple of chapters. After writing, they can cut out the “Beginning”
template and glue it inside the left door of their wardrobe.
4. Repeat the writing as the book progresses with the “Middle” panel. The large square on the same page is a frame for a picture. They can make a picture of the
lamppost, or any other scene they wish from the book. The picture fits inside the box toward the top, and the “Middle “ panel toward the bottom. They should
always complete the writing and drawing before cutting and gluing.
5. The “Ending” panel goes inside the right-hand door of the wardrobe. They can also add the title to the front or top of the wardrobe. A blank title box is given for
other books.
6. The “Problem” and “Solution” panels can go on the left and right sides of the box, and the “Character” and “Setting” panel on the rear.

Have fun!!
