and Haryana High Court on
Friday stayed the Wrestling
Federation of India (WFI)
elections slated for August
12 until further orders.
The order came on a pe-
tition filed by the Haryana
Wrestling Association chal-
lenging the move to allow
the Haryana Amateur Wres-
tling Association to cast
votes in the polls.
Advocate Ravinder Malik,
representing Haryana Wres-
tling Association (HWA),
which is headed by MP
Deepinder Hooda said Hary-
ana Wrestling association
is a registered society in the
state of Haryana and is affil-
iated to the WFI.
According to the election
rules and constitution of
the WFI, any registered af-
filiated body can send two
representatives to cast their
votes for the polls, he stat-
ed.
He said that one more
body, the Haryana Amateur
Wrestling Association has
claimed that it was affiliat-
ed to the WFI as well as the
Haryana Olympic Associa-
tion.
Haryana Amateur Wres-
tling Association further
claimed that the HWA has
no business to participate
in the election process be-
cause they are not affiliated

NEW DELHI: The Election
Commission on Friday pub-
lished its final report on the
delimitation of assembly and
parliamentary constituen-
cies in Assam, keeping their
total numbers unchanged at
126 and 14, respectively.
In its final order, the poll
panel has revised the no-
menclature of one parlia-
mentary and 19 assembly
constituencies. According to
a statement by the poll body,
19 assembly and two Lok
Sabha constituencies have
been reserved for Scheduled
Tribes (STs).

advised its nationals resid-
ing in violence-hit Niger to
leave that country as soon
as possible in view of esca-
lating violence there.
At present, around 250 In-
dians are living in Niger that

cording to officials.
In an advisory, the Ministry
of External Affairs said those

outline has been prepared
for organizing exhibitions
and showing documenta-
ries on partition. Instructions
have been issued by Chief
Secretary Durga Shankar
Mishra to all Secretaries, Di-
visional Commissioners and
District Magistrates in this
regard.
The events are designed
to promote the spirit of
unity, social harmony and
human empowerment by
eliminating discrimination,
enmity and ill-will.
Two minutes silence will
be observed in the memory
of those who lost their lives
in the violence that followed
the partition of the country
at the programmes. The

CHANDIGARH: The Hary-
ana government on Friday
rejected in the high court
the suggestion that a dem-
olition drive in violence-hit
Nuh did not follow proce-
dure and was an exercise
in “ethnic cleansing”, as
the bench hearing the case
referred it to the chief jus-
tice’s court.
On Monday, the Punjab
and Haryana High court had
halted the demolition of “il-
legally-constructed” build-
ings in Muslim-dominated
Nuh, questioning if a partic-
ular community was being
targeted after communal
violence broke out there.
As the case came up for
hearing before the division
bench of Justices Arun Palli
and Jagmohan Bansal on
Friday, Haryana’s Additional
Advocate General Deepak
Sabharwal told the court
that due procedure estab-
lished under the law was
followed.
“We have apprised the
court that it is not at all a
case of ethnic cleansing and
the government never works
like this. For the state, all are
equal. Entire procedure fol-
lowed before the demolition
was carried out,” he told re-
porters later.
The government will file
a written reply before the
court on the next date of
hearing. Sabharwal said the
court adjourned the case,
saying the matter has to be
heard by the first division
bench of the chief justice as
per the high court rules.
According to him, the
demolition drive can go on
as there was no stay on it.

and Harpreet Kaur Jeevan
had on Monday halted the
demolition drive after tak-
ing suo motu cognizance of
some news reports.
“Apparently, without any
demolition orders and notic-
es, the law and order prob-
lem is being used as a ruse
to bring down buildings with-
out following the procedure
established by law,” the
court had then said.
“The issue also arises
whether the buildings be-
longing to a particular com-
munity are being brought
down under the guise of law
and order problem and an
exercise of ethnic cleansing
is being conducted by the
State,” it added.
