Determine history of hypersensitivity

GI: Diarrhea, Nausea and Vomiting and Cramps. DERM: Rashes, Urticaria. MISC: Allergic Reactions

DRUG CLASSIFICATION: ANTI-INFECTIVES; 2nd GEN CEPHALOSPORINS

HEMAT: Bleeding, Hemolytic Anemia LOCAL: pain at IM site, Phlebitis at IV site.

reactions to cephalosporins, penicillins, and history of allergies, particularly to drugs, before therapy is initiated. Perform culture and sensitivity tests before initiation of therapy and periodically during therapy if indicated. Monitor periodically BUN and creatinine clearance. Inspect IM and IV injection sites frequently for signs of phlebitis. Report onset of loose stools or diarrhea.. Monitor for manifestations of hypersensitivity (see Appendix F). Discontinue drug and report their appearance promptly. Monitor I&O rates and pattern: Especially important in severely ill patients receiving high doses. Report any significant changes.

BRANDNAME: RANITIDINE

20mg IV q8

GENERIC NAME: ZANTAC

Inhibits the action of histamine at the H2 receptor site located primarily in gastric parietal cells, resulting in inhibition of gastric acid secretion.

CNS: Confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, hallucinations, headache. CV: Arrythmias GI: Alter taste, Black Tounge, Constipation, dark Stools, Diarrhea, Nausea.

Renal and Hepatic patients are not a good candidate for this med. No anti-inflamatories should be given. This includes aspirin and the like. Antacids should be taken one hour before or one hour after ranitidine, as they inhibit the effectiveness. Avoid stomach and GI irritants -- this includes smoking and ETOH Watch for signs of GI bleeds.

GU: Decreased sperm count, impotence ENDO: Gynecomastia LOCAL: Pain at IM site. MISC: Hypersensitivty reactions

BRANDNAME: OMEPRAZOLE GENERIC NAME: PRILOSEC

20mg IV OD

Binds to an enzyme on gastric parietal cells in the presence of acidic gastric pH, preventing the final transports of hydrogen ions in to the gastric lumen.

CNS: Dizziness, drowsiness, Fatigue, Headache, weakness. CV: Chest Pain

History: Hypersensitivity to omeprazole or any of its components; pregnancy, lactation Physical: Skin lesions; T; reflexes, affect; urinary output, abdominal exam; respiratory auscultation Administer before meals. Caution patient to swallow capsules whole not to open, chew, or crush them. Monitor for side effect and adverse effects. Report severe headache, worsening of symptoms, fever, chills

GI: Abdominal Pain, Acid Regurgitation, Constipation, Diarrhea, Flatulence, Nausea and vomiting. DERM: Itching, Rash. MISC: Allergic reactions.
