Subject: General Physics

Topic: Units of Measurements
Name: Francine Marie Y. Girado Date Given: August 16, 2023
Due Date: August 21, 2023

Learning Competencies: The students should be able to solve measurement problems involving
conversion of units.

Activity: Problem Solving.

Instructions: Answer the following word problems given below. Write your answer at the end of each
problem. Deadline of Submission is Monday at 5PM.

1. Giku purchased tiles for his patio that are 8” by 4”. He measured his patio in metres and wants
to convert the tile dimensions to SI units. What are the dimensions of the tiles in centimeters?

SOLUTION:
2.54 cm
 8 inch = 8 inch = 20.32 cm Therefore, the dimensions of the tiles in cm is
1incℎ
20.32 cm by 10.16 cm
2.54 cm
 4 inch = 4 inch = 10.16 cm
1incℎ

2. Kent owns an older truck. The odometer shows distance travelled in miles. On a recent trip to
deliver produce for his employer, he drove 1564 miles. His employer pays him $0.89/km for
the use of his own truck. How much will he be reimbursed for the use of his truck for the trip?

SOLUTION: 1 mile = 1.60934km

Kent will be reimbursed $2240.1369 or
1.60934 km
 1564 miles = 1564miles $2240.14 for the use of his truck for
= 2517.00776km
1 mile
the trip
$ 0.89
 2517.00776km x = $2240.1369/$2240.14
1 km

3. A school custodian must mark off a field that is 150 ft. by 85 ft. His tape measure is marked in
meters. What are the dimensions of the field in meters?

SOLUTION: 1 ft = 0.3048m

0.3048 m The dimension of the field in meters are

 150 ft = 150ft = 45.72m
1 ft 45.72m by 25.908m

4. Cody knows that his semi-trailer truck is 3.3 m high. A tunnel is marked as “Max height: 10’
6”.” Will Cody’s truck fit through the tunnel?

SOLUTION:
3.28 ft
 3.3m = 10.824ft Yes, because the truck did not exceed
1m
the max height: 10’ 6” since the
¿ truck’s measurement is 9.84in
 0.82ft 12∈ 1 ft ¿ = 9.84in

5. Julianne needs 3.5 m of cloth. If the cloth she wants to purchase costs $9.78/yd, how much will
the cloth cost?

SOLUTION:
The cloth will cost her $37.43
1.09361 yd
 3.5m = 3.5m = 3.827635yd
