Roberta Evelyn Milnes Scholarship Application

I am writing to apply for the Roberta Evelyn Milnes Scholarship, and I am excited to
share my volunteer involvement in the community. As an international student, this
scholarship would greatly support my academic journey and enable me to continue my
efforts in community engagement and social change.

Throughout my time at the University of Victoria, I have actively participated in various

volunteer initiatives, witnessing the profound impact that community engagement can
have on individuals and society as a whole. I believe that by giving back to the
community, we can create positive change and uplift those in need.

I am currently volunteering as an HR Assistant at GoGirl, an organization supporting

underprivileged girls and teaching them coding skills, I have had the privilege of
witnessing the transformative power of education and mentorship. By contributing to the
recruitment and onboarding processes, I have seen firsthand how empowering these girls
with coding skills opens doors to new opportunities and helps break the cycle of poverty.

Another significant volunteer experience was my involvement with Global Brigades

fundraisers, where I dedicated my time and efforts to raise funds for their international
volunteer projects across countries in North America. Furthermore, I volunteered for
ATHMA NGO in India with a primary focus on fundraising. Through these endeavors, I
played a vital role in generating financial support for various causes, ranging from
empowering women to environmental conservation. Working closely with these
organizations gave me insight into the challenges faced by marginalized populations and
reinforced my commitment to creating positive social change.

In addition, I had the privilege of supporting single mothers and their children through
my involvement with ATHMA, an organization dedicated to providing assistance and
resources to single mothers. Leveraging social media platforms, I raised awareness,
fostered community engagement, and shared valuable information, witnessing the impact
of our collective efforts on the lives of these mothers and their children.

Lastly, my participation in the Ecological Restoration Club and volunteering on Mayne

Island allowed me to contribute to the restoration of prime land. Through hands-on
activities like planting native species and removing invasive plants, I witnessed the
tangible positive changes that can be achieved through collaborative efforts. This
experience solidified my passion for environmental sustainability and the preservation of
our natural resources.

In conclusion, my extensive volunteer involvement in diverse initiatives has shaped my

worldview, reinforced my commitment to social change, and ignited my passion for
making a positive impact in the community. I believe that receiving the Roberta Evelyn
Milnes Scholarship will not only support my academic journey but also empower me to
continue contributing to causes that are close to my heart.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to further
discuss my experiences and aspirations.
