TRIASSIC
Done by:
What is the name of the period?

The name of the period we chose is

Triassic, The name Triassic comes
from Germany where it was originally
named the Trias in 1834 by Friedrich
August Von Alberti (1795-1878)
because it is represented by a
three-part division of rock types in
Germany. It is still called the Trias by
many European geologists.
HOW LONG DID THIS
PERIOD LAST FOR ?
1: When did the period start? and when
did it end ? What era is Triassic part of ?
The Triassic Period (252-201 million years
ago) began after Earth's worst-ever (Mesozoic)

extinction event devastated life.

(251.902 (+/- 0.024) million years ago)

The Triassic period ended( 201.3 (+/- 0.2)

million years ago)
What was earth's climate
during the triassic period ? what was happening on earth during triassic period that
THE GLOBAL CLIMATE DURING THE was responsible for this climate?

TRIASSIC WAS MOSTLY HOT AND The climate of the Triassic Period was influenced by
Pangea, its centralized position straddling the equator,
DRY, WITH DESERTS SPANNING and the geologic activity associated with its breakup.
Generally speaking, the continents were of high elevation
MUCH OF PANGAEA'S INTERIOR. compared to sea level, and the sea level did not change

HOWEVER, THE CLIMATE SHIFTED drastically during the period.

AND BECAME MORE HUMID AS

PANGAEA BEGAN TO DRIFT APART.
what organisms were alive that
would contribute to the climate of
triassic being this way?
Myosaurus Cartorhynchus
Cymbospondylus Tanystropheidae
WHAT WAS ATMOSPHERE LIKE DURING THE
TRIASSIC PERIOD ? WHAT WAS THE
ATMOSPHERE COMPRISED OF DURING THIS
TIME ?

The atmosphere during the Triassic was

significantly different to the one we have today. It
had an oxygen content 20% lower than what we
experience today and carbon dioxide levels
about 4 times higher than what we have today. It
was also about 3 degrees Celsius warmer than
current temperatures on average.
WHAT WAS THE STATE OF
EARTH'S CONTINENTS
DURING THE TRIASSIC
supercontinent
PERIOD ? Pangea

The supercontinent Pangea. The Triassic is largely defined

by extinctions, but it is also characterised by the position of
the continents at that time. There was only one giant
landmass: Pangea.
WHAT DID EARTH LOOK
LIKE DURING THE
TRIASSIC PERIOD
The environment during the Triassic was
as varied as it is today, with large swathes
of forests, dry deserts and open prairies.
'The global effect of this supercontinent
would have been a greatly enhanced
seasonality in different parts of it.
WHERE WERE EARTH'S
CONTINENTS DURING THE
TRIASSIC PERIOD
At the beginning of the Triassic Period, the present
continents of the world were grouped together into
one large C-shaped supercontinent named Pangea.
Covering about one-quarter of Earth's surface,
Pangea stretched from 85° N to 90° S in a narrow belt
of about 60° of longitude.
WHICH CONTINENTS WERE TOGETHER
DURING THE TRIASSIC PERIOD? AND
WHICH CONTINENTS WERE SEPARATE
DURING THE TRIASSIC PERIOD?
Pangaea began to break apart in the mid-Triassic,
forming Gondwana (South America, Africa, India,
Antarctica, and Australia) in the south and Laurasia
(North America and Eurasia) in the north.
