III. PROCEDURES
A. Preparatory activity
1. Prayer Say: Let us pray.
2. Checking of attendance Say: If I call your name, stand up and say present.
3. Checking of assignments Say: Please bring out your assignments and pass it forward. I will be the one
to check it.
B. Review
C. Motivation The teacher will play a video and let the pupils watch it, thereafter, will ask
the following questions.
C. Analysis and Discussion Say: As we all know; similar fractions are fractions with the same
denominator.
The denominator is the numeric value below the vinculum of a fraction and
represents the total number of eac equal parts as a whole.
Examples:
1/4
2/4
3/4
Say: While mixed numbers are the fractions that are more than the whole
number. Also called as the mixed fractions
Examples:
= 1 2/4
How to subtract similar fractions?
1. Make sure the bottom numbers (denominators) are the same
2. Subtract the top numbers (the numerators). Put the answer over the
denominator.
3. Simplify if needed.
Example: 3 3 ⁄4 - 2 2⁄4
3 - 2 =1
-
How to subtract mixed number and similar fractions?
Note that the fractions have the same denominators and the first fraction is
larger than the second:
1. Write down the whole number without changing it.
2. Carry out the subtraction of the fractions.
3. Add the result to tew ole number you wrote earlier.
