Communication Barrier: Communication barriers are including anything that prevents or disables

communicators/ Sender to deliver the right message to the right person at the right time, or a receiver to get
the right message at the right time.

In one sentence we can say that, Communication barriers refer to those factors that render
interpersonal communication ineffective.

When something prevents two people from communicating effectively, we call it a communication
barrier.

1. Psychological Barriers: The psychological and emotional factors of persons affect the communication
process. It is essential that both sender and receiver should be mentally fit and of sound mind while
communicating with each other.

Speech disorders, depression, phobia, emotional IQ of persons are very difficult to manage and will affect the
ease of communication process.

Example: the person is mentally unstable, have speech distortion when he talks, He is Deaf.

2. Physical/Environmental Barrier: Geographical distance between the sender and receiver in the
communication process creates a physical barrier.

Physical barriers arise due to noises, faulty equipment, closed doors, closed cabins while communication
process.

Example: outside mike hoking for election camping, fan is making noise while talking, drilling on the top floor

3. Cultural Barrier: People with different cultures and regions have different beliefs, values, beliefs and
perceptions as per their cultures. Different cultures have different meaning for society basic values like
dressing, religion, drink, food and general behaviour.

Example: beef is restrained in Hindu culture, Western Dresses in Afghanistan streets

4. Language Barriers:  Language barriers arise when people are not able to understand the language used in
communication as different people have different linguistic skills. It is important that all persons involved in the
communication process should clearly understand the language used.

Example: Only Speaks Japanese in Bangladesh, using native language in a meeting

5. Perceptual Barrier: Different people perceive the same things differently and this is the most considerable
fact during the communication process. For effective communication, knowledge of the perception levels of
the audience is crucial.

Example: My boss does not believe that I can carry out a business loan process.

6. Gender Barrier: assumed gender roles, and interpersonal differences can contribute to a communication
gap between the sexes.

Example: Girls can’t represent our project in front of banks. Boys are not perfect for position of secretary of
MD.
COMMUNICATION NETWORK

A communication network is a pattern or form that is implemented in


the organization to communicate information effectively. 

Wheel Network

Under the wheel communication network, the leader of the organization works as a central person
to accumulate information and disseminate it to all the members. In short, in the wheel network, a
top-level manager is the source of information, he collects, generates, and disseminates information
to all the organizational mechanisms.

Example: BHL Executive Director of Finance has 6 senior executives. All senior executives receives
command from ED. All senior executives reports only ED.

Chain Network

The chain network has all the appearance of an organizational chain of command. It is the vertical
upward and downward form of the formal chain of communication. In this communication network,
a person can communicate only with his immediate superior and subordinate.

Example: Chairman President Executive Director of Finance Senior Executives

Circle Network

It is a horizontal or sideward form of a circle network. In this network, a person can communicate
with another person next to his right or left but not with any other member of the group. Example:

All Channel Network

In all channel networks, all members can communicate with all the members without any formal
restrictions.
