ENGLISH SEPTEMBER EXAM 2020-2021: 1ºESO

READING (2 POINTS)
1 Read the text. Then tick the sentences T (true) or F (false). (1 POINT)
Julie Church is a marine scientist. In 1997, she was in Kenya and studied the turtles
on the beaches. The baby turtles had a problem – it was difficult for them to get to
the ocean because there was rubbish including many old flip-flops, a type of plastic
sandal, on the beaches.

One day, Church saw some children on the beach. They used the flip-flops to make
toy boats. Then Church had an idea. Church and her friends collected the flip-flops
and washed them. Local artists used the plastic to make beautiful sculptures and
animals. Today, Church has got a company with 100 people. They use 400,000 old
flip-flops every year to make beautiful plastic animals. Church is very happy – her
company gives people jobs and it is also helping the turtles and cleaning the beaches.
