3.1 TRAINING

• This Training Manual is prepared specially for project personnel on the safe
an efficient operation and maintenance of the control panel.
• Is not intended to be the sole document for the above training. It shall be
used in conjunction with the relevant O&M Manuals and formal theoretical
and practical training given by qualified trainees.

3.2 Purpose and General Description

3.2.1 Purpose:

To familiarize the personnel with the theoretical and practical aspects of operation
and maintenance of the control panel. The training covers normal operation,
emergency conditions maintenance and troubleshooting of the systems.

3.2.2 Contractor’s Instructors

The Contractors Instructors will undertake the On-site Training jointly with the
Training Instructors of the trainees. They shall be very familiar with the plant and
its systems and equipment.

4.1 Maintenance Procedures

4.1.1 Control Panel

Panel boards must be visually inspected and necessary servicing chiefly

consisting of checks and inspections to be carried out as mentioned in below
table

The Log-out Tag-out procedure (LOTO) must be followed before starting the
maintenance activities. The upstream breaker feeding power to Panel board
must be turned off and locked. Open the front door of the panel board by using
the Ronis key (Do not use a screw driver to open and close the door). Remove
the metallic dead front using a screw driver. Inspect the interior of the panel,
look for signs of rust, moisture, loose connections, discoloration, melting,
debris etc. Replace faulty circuit breakers with the new one as required. The
replacement breaker must have the same ampere and the same type as the
previous breaker. Snap the new circuit breaker into the same place as the old
on the panel. Place the wires in the new circuit breaker as they were in the old
one.

To replace a fuse cartridge, Switch off the Incomer Isolator and then open fuse
holder by gently pulling on the front cover cap, remove the old cartridge and
insert new one then push to close the holder. Switch on the incomer once fuse
is replaced.

Do not clean the Switchgear using compressed air, it may cause shavings and
debris to accumulate in an area, always use a vacuum cleaner for cleaning
purpose Use dry clothes or clothes dipped in denaturized alcohol which will not
damage the paint, all other type of solvents is forbidden. Greasing is not
required for Panel boards. Components like isolators, MCBs, RCBOs, ELCBs
etc., cleaning should be carried out using a cloth or brush which is perfectly
clean and dry. In case of paint scratches/damage, repainting/ touch up
painting should be done as applicable

4.2 Planned Maintenance Schedules

4.2.1 Control Panel Maintenance Schedule

Perform Every:

Activity
week month months
Check that operating tools, handles, keys, etc. are readily
available in Panel board. ●
Inspect Panel board or circuit breakers enclosure for undue
heating. ●
Check for undue noise, overheating or vibration, loose parts,
tightness of screw/bolts and warping, and report to the
management for correction or repair. ●
Inspect earthing connections, power terminations and
control circuits without shutting down the Panel Board as per ●
Engineer's instruction.
Remove all dust and debris inside the Panel boards with the
aid of a vacuum cleaner. ●
Check electrical and/or mechanical operation of Isolators,
MCBs, ELCBs and RCBOs ●
Look for any signs of moistures onto the bus bar. Eliminate
moisture source immediately. ●
Inspect electrical connections, cables and supports,
insulation for discoloration, excessive corrosion, secure
connections, clean contacts, insulation chaffing and ●
embroiled or discoloured cable or insulator. Correct any
defect
Clean the stationary part of the Panel board with a clean
cloth, use compressed dry air for inaccessible areas. ●
Check that all conduits and cable gland terminations
associated with the Panel board are secure ●
Inspect the SPD periodically to maintain system
performance and continued transient voltage surge
suppression. Periodically check the state of the ●
diagnostically display LED indications.
If there is appreciable accumulation of dust and dirt, in
Busbars, clean it off by using a brush, vacuum cleaner, or
clean lint-free rags. To avoid blowing dust into bus bar joints
or other equipment, do not use a blower or compressed air. ●
Carry out this procedure as frequently as necessary to keep
the bus bar clean always.

Carefully inspect all visible electrical joints and terminals.
Check tightness of bolts and nuts. If joint terminations
appear to be badly discoloured, corroded or pitted or show
evidence of having been subjected to high temperatures, ●
then these parts must be disassembled and cleaned or
replaced.
Check the insulation resistance prior to reenergizing the bus
bar. A permanent record must be kept of resistance
readings. If readings decrease appreciably with time, ●
deterioration is taking place.
Check the condition of all fuses and switch
gear ●
Check the ambient temperature and
