I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards  Demonstrate an understanding of some important properties of
solutions.

B. Performance Standards  Prepare different concentrations of mixtures according to uses and

availability of materials

C. Learning Competencies At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
and Objectives Competency Code: S7MT-Id-3
 Express concentrations of solutions quantitatively by preparing
different concentrations of mixtures according to uses and
availability of materials.
Objectives:
 Describe the concentration of solutions quantitatively and
qualitatively.
 Differentiate between diluted and concentrated solutions.
Module No. 1

IV. PROCEDURE
When do we say that a solution is unsaturated? Saturated?
A. ELICIT

B. ENGAGE The teacher will prepare glasses of strawberry juice as shown below and
present this to the class.

Ask: How will you describe these glasses of juice? Which among these do
you think are diluted solution? Concentrated solution?

Activity: Concentration of Solutions

C. EXPLORE Materials
food color (blue, yellow, or green) 4 clear, transparent bottles
medicine droppers stirrer
water
Procedure (Part 1)
1. Label the clear, transparent bottles with numbers 1 to 4.
2. Place one drop of food color in bottle #1.
3. Add 50 mL water to the food color in bottle #1 and stir the
solution.
4. Place 10 drops of food color in bottle #2.
5. Add 50 mL water to the food color in bottle #2 and stir the
solution.
6. Describe and differentiate the two bottles.
bottles.
Procedure (Part 2)
1. Place one drop of food color in bottle #3.
2. Add 20 mL water in bottle #3 and stir the solution.
3. Place one drop of food color in bottle #4.
4. Add 100 mL water to the food color in bottle #4 and stir the
solution.
5. Differentiate the two bottles.
a. How will you describe the solution in bottle 1,2,3, and 4?
D. EXPLAIN b. Which bottle contain diluted solution? Concentrated solution?
c. What is the difference between diluted and concentrated solution?
How is diluted solution differ from concentrated solution?
E. ELABORATE
Most often, juices are prepared in different occasions. If you want your
pineapple juice to be more concentrated, what should you do?

Multiple choice: Choose the best answer. Write the letter of the correct
F. EVALUATE answer on your answer sheet.

1. Which of the following sugar solutions is the most concentrated?

A. 2 g of sugar in 100 mL of water
B. 12 g of sugar in 30 mL of water
C. 15 g of sugar in 25 mL of water
D. 5 g of sugar in 60 mL of water

2. When there is a large amount of dissolved solute for a certain volume of

solvent, the solution is said to be
A. diluted B. unsaturated
C. concentrated D. heterogeneous

3. Which of the following describes a diluted solution?

A. it has a small amount of dissolved solute in a much less amount of
solute
B. It has the same amount of dissolved solute and solvent.
C. It has a small amount of dissolved solute in comparison to the
given amount of solvent.
D. It has a greater amount of dissolved solute in a given amount of
solvent.

Use the picture of a certain solution below to answer questions

4. Which test tube shows diluted solution? ______ ( test tube 1 )

5. Which test tube shows concentrated solution?_____ ( test tube 5 )

G. EXTEND Look for the labels of the solutions at home. Identify if it’s diluted or
concentrated.
