c. Abstraction

The teacher will discuss the use of modals for

the obligation.

“MODALS OF OBLIGATION”

1. SHOULD
- It is a mild obligation or advice.
Example: Vaccination SHOULD be
mandatory.
(Students participate in the discussion.)
The teacher will ask the students to give
sentences with a modal of obligation,
"should."

Modal + verb

should + be

2. MUST
- It is a strong obligation, possibly based
on the speaker's opinion.

Example: Online schooling MUST be

implemented.

The teacher will ask the students to give

sentences with a modal of obligation, "must."

Modal + verb

must + be implemented

3. HAVE TO
- It is a strong obligation that shows
necessity.
Example: People HAVE TO wear a face mask
in public places.

The teacher will ask the students to give

sentences with a modal of obligation, "have
to."

Modal + verb
have to + wear (Students listen attentively.)

The teacher will discuss the importance of

modals of obligation, namely, SHOULD,
MUST, and HAVE TO.

“The modal “should" will be used to give

advice or give mild obligation. For example,
people can still choose to be vaccinated or not,
especially if they are not public nor a private
practitioner since no one demands them to be
vaccinated.”

“The modal “must" and "have to" are all strong

obligations. "Must" will be used to impose a
specific obligation. For example, if one teacher
implements an online class in their subject,
students are obliged to do so. If the other
teacher does not implement an online class,
the students are not obliged to have online
