Examining relationship between humble leadership and championing
innovative behavior, mediating role of meaningful work and
organizational innovative culture as moderator
Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of humble leadership on championing innovative
behaviors. The study will also examine the meaningful work as an underlying mechanism and
organizational innovative culture as moderator.

Research Design/ Methodology/Approach:


The study utilized a quantitative data collection approach through a questionnaire design and data
collection convenient non-probability sampling technique is used. 200 samples were collected
from the employees working telecom sector of Pakistan.

Findings:
The data analysis has proved direct paths, mediation and moderation hypotheses significant.
Humble leadership significantly impact championing innovative behavior. It is also identified that
meaningful work mediates the relationship between humble leadership and championing
innovative behavior. Organizational innovative culture is identified as moderator that strengthens
the impact of humble leadership on meaningful work.

Limitations:
The limitations include cross sectional nature of data, as data is collected at one point of time,
employees response may vary and can be influenced by other contextual factors such as complex
task, lack of motivation and organizational identity.

Practical implications:
The study has practical implications for supervisors, managers and leaders of organizations.
Leader’s humbleness impact followers innovative behavior in a way that humble leader not only
listen but also promotes and implements follower’s ideas which motivate them to perform innately.

Originality/value
The research contributes to humble leadership literature by being the first to empirically investigate
the impact on employees of telecom sector. This study has importance especially for those
healthcare staff working under supervisors or head nurses where require innovative behaviors.
