Experiences
As we conduct the Community Immersion in Barangay Hizon in Lanang, I
experiences many things on that day, where I exposed myself as if I am working. As I
do the community immersion I experience many things in that place, like the challenges
I face when going there, it is because that the road or pathway is hard, it is so narrow
where someone need to adjust just to make a way for the person. I also experience
being an observer there, where I observe that even there place is small they are still
happy also, the family we interview there is in the middle class because they have their
business where they can earn a reasonable amount of money. In doing a community
immersion, I help myself improve performance and develop new skills by experiencing
new things, like making a conversation in other people there, helping them by
suggesting some things, and by observing on what is the main problem on that place.
Overall, community immersion provide me a deeper understanding of what it is
happening on one’s place and their history. It also help me develop my practical skills,
and build my confidence in socializing people.
Learnings
As we do community immersion, it provides me numerous valuable learnings and
insights because the community itself is interesting it gives you the both learnings and
experiences. The first learning I met is the understanding their culture it is because the
people there is friendly and talkative, also they are happy even though the place is so
narrow and the house is small, they still have a positive vibes. Another is that the
community dynamics, as we interview the family what I observe is that the relationship
or the connection in their family is strong because I cannot see any problem there
besides on their house and the pathway. In observing the community I learn that they
face some challenges there, the one issue I observe is that the pathway and the road,
because of the small pathway there the canal, where they might get sick because of the
dirty and narrow place. In addition, I observe that some of them is lacking in basic
amenities like, the running water, some of them there is just relying on a water that
came from the beach. Lastly, I learn that we need to have enough communication and
problem solving skills as a community because as what I can see there is that they are
lack of it. If that community is not lacking of it they can easily come up some ideas or
ways to solve problem, also they can easily make something that will help the
community to grow and make it beautiful. In doing that community immersion, I learned
a lot because of the people there and with help of my group and guides.
Background blaa blaa
Community immersion is the practice of completely integrating oneself into a
community in order to comprehend its culture, values, and difficulties. It entails
becoming actively involved in the community's activities, interacting with its people, and
directly witnessing its dynamics. Individuals, groups, or institutions frequently engage in
community immersion to advance social change, increase intergroup understanding,
and provide long-lasting solutions to local problems. The goal of the community
immersion strategy, which used in community organizing, is to give NSTP trainees a
better understanding and realization of the various community concerns by exposing
them to real-life situations, particularly in the underprivileged, depressed, and destitute
(DDU) communities. Research, community development, social work, and lobbying are
just a few of the many fields in which community immersion may be an invaluable tool. It
enables researchers to conduct more insightful investigations and create solutions that
properly contextualized by giving them first-hand knowledge of the experiences and
viewpoints of community members. Immersion enables organizations to co-create
interventions with community members for community development programs,
guaranteeing that they address the community's particular needs and ambitions.
Individuals or groups who participate in community immersion usually spend a lot of
time there, frequently residing among the locals. They can get knowledge about the
community's history, customs, and way of life as well as its social, economic, and
environmental difficulties through this immersive experience. Participants can gain a
deeper awareness of the community's strengths and needs by actively participating in
community events, volunteering, conducting interviews, and conversing with community
people.
