MIN1:11/5/2023- PROCEEDINGS

The meeting was opened at 11:30 am with a word of Prayer by Mr David Aura, and chaired by Mr.
Odnah Lwangu who welcomed all the team members.

MIN2:11/5/2023- SCOPE AND THEME OF THE ACTIVITY

Mr. Odner Lwangu informed the team on the outlines of the World Hunger Day preparations. He
emphasized on the main Objective of the Year to be SUSTAINABILITY. To sustain food systems both
now and the future, adding that the team may host “a sustainable supper” on the 28 th of May making it
extra special.

The team proposed the incorporation of Menstrual Health Day and World Nutrition Day since they will
also be on the same date.

The day will have a biased on Child and Adolescent health as per the main partner interest which is
“CHAMPIONING EVIDENCE BASED ADVOCACY ON PHC/RMNCAH+N”

MIN3:11/5/2023- ACTIVITIES

The activities Proposed were as follows;

1. Health Education
2. Demonstration on key local food combos that will ensure adequate nutrition is achieved to every
household. This was in line with the theme on Sustainability. Menstrual hygiene and oral hygiene
demos.
3. Integrated medical camp
4. Mobilization and advocacy
5. Food distribution on most vulnerable households and clients

Health education: The education will have key messages on eliminating hunger, oral hygiene, Child
health, maternal health, malnutrition, mental health, health insurance, cultural integration on health
matters and adolescent health/hygiene. The talks will be conducted in lieu with the celebration by
various health officer and agricultural officers

Demonstration sheds: The demonstrations will expose the residents to right local food combos that
meet the expected nutrition levels supplied to the body. This is in line with sustainable food sources
unlike the provision of expensive nutrition supplements only leaving the families vulnerable once
depleted. In addition, menstrual hygiene packs will be provided and demonstrated on their use with
the boy child benefiting from hygiene packs that will demonstrate on hygiene levels expected of the
boy child.
Integrated Medical Camps; The members suggested to conduct a walk before reaching the venue to
commemorate the day as well hold a medical camp being the major activity. The camp will have a
bias on RMNCAH realated activities with special attention to Under 5s. The scope of the integrated
medical camp;

 Nutrition screening i.e growth monitoring, MUAC and weight taking, consultation and assorted
supplementation e.g Vitamin A, ABZ
 Mental health counseling and screening.
 Pediatrics clinic and screening with all support services
 General OPD consultation
 HTS services
 Covid19 vaccination
 HPV screening and vaccination
 Oral health
 Health promotion i.e Family planning services
 TB Screening
 Cancer screening
 ENT and Eye screening plus treatment

Mobilization and advocacy: This will be conducted through the radio talk shows, CHVs messaging to
their various households and culminate in the World Hunger day walk. ; Community mobilizations to
be conducted through Radio talks, Public Health Officers, Chiefs, Village Elders, Whistle blowers,
Banners and Posters.

Food distribution to vulnerable households and clients; This would be conducted after the various
food combo demos that would be given the house hold representatives. It would be the climax of the
event with each family leaving with a locally formed food combo in the region.

MIN4:11/5/2023- PROPOSED AREAS FOR ACTIVITY

The members suggested the activities to be conducted at the most affected regions to be specific; Salaita,
Njukini, and Mata.

The members agreed the day to be held at Salaita within the Ndilidau catchment population.

The main reason for settling for Salaita;

 Cultural barriers in terms of food seeking behavior


 High numbers of child malnutrition and women/ mothers malnutrition
 Pastoral nature of the target population
 Mythical beliefs in some food categories eg they consider fish as a snake, greens to be fed to
livestock and chicken as birds not food
 Poor health seeking behavior especially from adolescent boys and men.
 Closed knit society with high cultural values
Targeted population;

 1100 children under 5 years


 1779 youth of adolescent age
 2265 Women of Child bearing Age.

The members are targeting a total of 500 persons to be attended to at the Medical Camp.
