The given diagram illustrates the way an Australian town generates drinking water from

rainwater.

Overall, the procedure comprises two main steps of gathering water from nature and treating
process, which releases water suited for consumption in the town.

Initially, rainwater flows through external gutters on the roof of each house. After that, natural
water runs through the pipe beside the house downwards to the drain on the ground =
underground collecting pipe system. Subsequently, water is passed to the underground
purifying system so as to remove solid contaminants, from whence partially treated water
runs into a storage tank placed at a deeper position.

Simultaneously, water with no impurities is transferred to a treating process with the interference
= activation of some specific chemical substances to make water qualified for daily use. After
being treated adequately = thoroughly, drinkable water is pumped back to each household
through a tap water system of long pipes and residents of the town can eventually use the
water pouring down from their domestic faucets.
